KeepLookingUp

My mom always told me to look down

To avoid the unwanted attention in town

To keep my gaze on my feet

And avoid the catcalls on the street

But I'm a dreamer, a star gazer

My eyes wander to the skies, not the pavement

I marvel at the constellations above

And the beauty of the heavens that I love

I know the risks of being a sky gazer

The chances of stumbling and falling are greater

But I'd rather trip and pick myself up

Than to never look up and miss the wonders above

So, Mom, forgive me for not heeding your advice

I'll keep my wits about me, but I won't compromise

My spirit, my curiosity, my thirst for life

I'll keep looking up, embracing the stars and their light.
