Welcome to the first of a series of articles that we’ll release over the coming weeks discussing WARPED, an on-chain MMO real-time strategy game built for Canto.
In these posts we will outline our ambitions, our views on on-chain gaming, detail what the project is about, what comes after we launch season zero and dive into the game’s lore.
Before we begin, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter and our Telegram group to receive the latest updates about the game’s development and launch (Discord coming soon).
WARPED is an on-chain season-based MMO Real Time Strategy game where players are plunged into an isometric fantasy sci-fi cyberpunk world. It has a strong focus on PvP and player interactions.
The game will be divided in seasons. Each season will come with new improvements and changes, everything will be reset. The prize pool will be distributed at the end of each season and will consist of all of the fees accrued by CSR and a portion of the royalties generated by the collections.
Seasons have a set duration which can vary from two to four months.
For season zero, the goal will be pretty simple so people can familiarize themselves with the base game mechanics : Dominate The World. It will act as a public beta where we gather community feedback and polish the game.

Season zero minters will be able to participate in all subsequent seasons for free.
Instead of running the whole whitelist grind scheme, we opted to add the holders of multiple notable collections to our whitelist we call manifest. This is to reward the people that believe in Canto’s ecosystem. We find it important to get true believers for season zero. They will be the pillars of our community, steering the game’s future development and we want those pillars to be strong and the feedback to be qualitative. Keep an eye out on Twitter as we’ll giveaway some spots there as well.
Details about which collections are included in the snapshot will be shared before minting.
Another way for you to get on the manifest is to apply to our closed alpha and submit pertinent feedback. More information will be revealed soon.
We chose a mint and play approach towards the launch of our game. This may change in future seasons but we want you to be able to enjoy the game right after mint. We strongly dislike selling vaporware and future promises, pre-orders are not our thing. If you mint a game NFT, you should be able to play the game, right now, not in two years if the founder didn’t lose all of the funds margin trading or buying Lamborghinis.
Because of that, minters that are present in the manifest will enjoy a short but valuable head start. In addition to that, people on the manifest will enjoy a discounted price.
We took our inspiration from games such as Travian, a popular browser-based MMO RTS where you start as the leader of a small village and must collect resources, build an army, as well as pillage and conquer neighboring villages to expand.
Another source of inspiration was a game known by all, Civilization. Right at beginning we wanted to have this huge map players could interact with. We opted to keep it “tactical” and “clean”. This may change in future seasons.

Science-Fiction and Fantasy are two of our favorite genres and titles such as Dune and Star Wars nailed incorporating elements of the two. Both are masterpieces and big sources of inspiration for the universe and the lore.
On-chain games enable a truly permissionless economy to form. No need for us to spend hundreds of hours on building a marketplace, you can chose the one you prefer.
On-chain games also increase the trust you have in the game through transparency. There is no need to guess if mods are cheating or if there is favoritism.
You can build your own tools, you can build your own mods, you can even build your own front end if you so wish.
Finally, DevOps is immensely simplified, there is no need for us to store passwords, user data, payment data or any data at all. There is no need for us to build a powerful database infrastructure for our game, the blockchain handles all of that for us.
Stay tuned for our next article where we dive deeper into the different mechanisms of the game.
