With the emergence of Web 3 and the rise of the metaverse concept, people have spontaneously created countless extended group spaces. People come together to discuss decisions and reach goals with a single purpose, and the level of organizational involvement has reached an unprecedented level, and relationships within the organization have become very flat.
These are features that would be unthinkable in a traditional modern corporate organization. There is no doubt that the loose DAO structure has its origins in the blockchain, but the epidemic has also brought to light the powerful vitality of this type of organization. The lower operating costs make DAOs the obvious choice for remote work. But to say that it will replace the corporate model, this paper argues that there is still a long way to go.
First, the concentration of social capital makes it impossible for DAOs to enter most traditional industries. The inherent stakeholders will not give up their resources, and it is obvious that the group with limited social resources will not be able to take the lead in terms of discourse.
Second, cultural conflicts and integration. although DAO is a global organization, cultural and linguistic differences have created certain barriers to communication, and most ordinary people are unable to participate in it.
Third, the difficulty of regulation. From ancient times to the present, any organization has to be under the supervision of the local government, and no one can be free from the supervision. On the one hand, the government needs to regulate the market operation of the industry and provide a relatively fair operating environment for the participants. On the other hand, the government needs to crack down on DAOs that are established with illegal objectives and remove them to maintain social stability. Therefore, the establishment of DAOs in the future will most likely require the authorities to issue a record.
Fourth, the vulnerability of the system and the attack of more than 51% of the concerted actors have been haunting people since the beginning of blockchain. This risk will always be there. This, coupled with the fact that no member within any organization can be 100% clean, has led to the existence of the Dark DAO, which can only mitigate the occurrence of corruption to a certain extent, but cannot eliminate the risk of its occurrence.
Fifth, the looseness of the organization does not apply to those organizations with a certain degree of exclusivity and confidentiality. For organizations with proprietary intellectual property rights or information proliferation resistance, full DAO is not conducive to the development of their business and the achievement of their ultimate goals. On the contrary, non-profit organizations are more suitable for DAO.
To sum up, DAO will definitely benefit the field of remote work in the future, and there will be more development in the field that is applicable to loose and relatively free, such as the field of creative design. Subsequent national policies will also be a necessary consideration for the growth of DAOs. In any case, there is no doubt that moving from the traditional board voting model to the Web 3 proposal model will always be a step forward for society.
