Lenin: What is that? Where am I? Hello? Mama? It is you…… What is happened? I do not know… Nothing.

Krupskaya: You are burning up.

Lydia:In the beginning, in Smolony, during the Revolution, the Council would meet day in and day out. Women, men, proletarians, intellectuals, everyone worked toward the cause together. There was nothing beyond the cause. I remember how Lenin returned to Russia. It was wartime, millions dead, the Czar deposed, but the democratic regime simply picked up where the old one had stopped. And then this man comes. He promises land, peace, bread-justice. He says, ‘It can not remain as it is. And after a few weeks, millions stand behind him.
Women, men, soldiers, farmers, everyone falls in love with this compeletely average man. And the old world is toppled.

Guetier: Fyodor Alexandrovich.

Lenin: How long do I have left to live?

Guetier: You have had a small stroke. By winter you will be back in the Kremlin.

Lydia: There is much talk – about sport, culture – gossip is talking over. Who loves whom, who has which post in the Party, who likes which artwork. Some even pray to their old icons. They used to be ashamed, not only before you, but before themselves as well.

Krupskaya: To what end? We are human, we will die. Perhaps I will die before you.
