The crypto community has been embracing an increasingly diversified group of users as applications blossom in various fields such as DeFi, NFTs, gaming, and Web 3 more broadly. The on-chain data uniquely represents users’ behaviors and contains all information regarding one’s digital life.
An address is a comprehensive representation of oneself; thus, users are sometimes required to send their addresses to join DAOs, form relationships, and claim tokens. However, asking for one’s address is comparable to asking for a person’s bank statements, community involvements, and artistic preferences, all at the same time. The recipient not only needs to distinguish useful information from all kinds of information, but also needs to examine the information that should be private.
WIW
To address this problem, we are pleased to introduce WIW, a privacy-preserving Web 3 identity protocol built for social, DAO, DeFi, and other applications. At the core of WIW, we aim to enable builders to know their users and let users express themselves with privacy protection. WIW provides extensive attestations for who users are. For example, one could be a whale with nine-figure assets, an early liquidity provider for Uniswap, or a BAYC lover. Regardless, WIW empowers the building and verification of these attestations based on one’s on-chain data.
Moreover, WIW aggregates users’ fragmented data across multiple addresses and generates encrypted attestations with zero-knowledge proofs. Such attestations are trustworthy and verifiable while revealing no excessive information that may compromise one’s privacy. Users have control over all aspects of their identities, as WIW is committed to providing pseudonymous profiles for users’ unique needs with an emphasis on absolute privacy protection.
Use Cases
WIW could potentially be used in many scenarios, including, but not limited to:
Personal Branding: Users can unlock opportunities specifically tailored for them.
Showcase users’ on-chain achievements. The attestations uniquely define contributions, tastes, track records, fun, and sorrow, be it a rug pull or worthless token one has bought. Users can also prove their excellent performance gathered from their trading, farming, and staking records so that people with verifiable track records can stand out in a world with quite a lot of noise.
Build users’ Web 3 resumes. Apart from trading performance, users can show their on-chain activities to demonstrate their involvement in crypto. Developers can show projects to which they contributed to indicate their technical expertise.
Access exclusive opportunities such as airdrops and undercollateralized loans. Users satisfying certain requirements will be able to unlock opportunities exclusively designed for them.
Social Activities:
Join gated communities. Users can access communities for BAYC holders without needing to show which ape and address they own. Instead of token-gated communities, attestation-gated communities provide much more flexibility. For example, there could be a community for Ethereum OGs in which they can look back on the history of the network and discuss its past and future. Users can also easily form sub-communities such as users owning OtherSide lands with Kodas.
Verify people’s behaviors with credibility. The crypto space is a wild place in which truth and falsehoods are difficult to verify. WIW enables everyone to verify the credibility of other users.
Meet people with the same interests, beliefs and goals. Are you interested in decentralization infrastructure? If so, you can meet people who hold $POKT and $GRT. Are you interested in attending crypto events, meet people who hold similar POAPs as you.
Tools for Builders: Apart from being used by users, WIW can be used by builders to know their users and community contributors.
Perform user analyses while protecting user privacy. For example, NFT project builders can analyze holder analytics. Potentially interesting profiles might include diamond hands, paper hands, flippers, and whales, among others.
Ask the right people for governance. See which DAOs your users are in, along with their governance statistics.
Initiate targeted campaigns and partnerships. For example, the holders of your project might also hold a lot of Clone X. In that case, you should consider building awareness of your project within the Clone X community.
These are just several use cases that have come to mind. We imagine that our community will demonstrate quite a lot of creativity and find additional use cases going forward.
For Builders, By Builders
Our identity infrastructure is open to everyone, such that everyone can build upon WIW. In the spirit of decentralization and anticensorship, we have built a permissionless and decentralized infrastructure. As builders ourselves, we empower other builders to build identities for their projects.
Crypto is receiving an increasing amount of attention from non-tech savvy people; thus, comprehensive identities benefit mainstream users. We hope to build a more prosperous future of crypto together with you, whether you are a builder, trader, DAO organizer, designer, writer, or other role.
