Zora: The pumpfun of art

Zora recently launched a new feature to solve the problems of secondary liquidity for NFT holders. This is a pivotal point and can fundamentally bring back the NFT bullrun.

The Problem with Offchain Secondary Marketplaces

One of the biggest challenges facing the NFT market has been the proliferation of offchain secondary marketplaces. These marketplaces have led to fragmentation, low liquidity, and a complete abandonment of creator royalties. This has not only hurt artists but also diminished the overall value and experience for collectors.

Zora's Solution: Secondary Markets Onchain with Uniswap

Zora has come up with an innovative solution to this problem by bringing secondary markets onchain with Uniswap. Here's how it works:

  1. Mint fees are set at ✧111 (0.000111 ETH)

  2. Default mint duration is set at 3 days

  3. When the mint ends, ETH migrates to Uniswap

  4. The LP position is burned, with only the ability to claim fees remaining for creators

This approach creates an onchain, liquid, and permissionless market that collectors can easily use to buy and sell at any time. It also ensures that creators are fairly compensated for their work through the 1% fee split between the creator and Zora.

The First Successful Case Study: $243M Theft by ZachXBT

One of the first successful case studies of Zora's new feature is the "$243M Theft" token created by well-known crypto influencer ZachXBT. By upgrading a contract on the Zora platform, ZachXBT was able to wrap a collectible NFT into an ERC20 token and make it available for trading on Uniswap.

Initially, a small liquidity pool was created with 320 tokens and approximately 0.0356 ETH, with the ElonRWA deployer being the primary source of initial liquidity. As more liquidity was added to the pool, trading volume increased, earning ZachXBT over $15,000 in ETH and tokens (at current token prices) through the 1% fee split.

The "$243M Theft" token has garnered significant attention from the crypto community, with prominent accounts like @cobie, @Cryptopathic, @PuggyTrades joining the associated Telegram group. Despite someone deciding to CTO the token, the case study demonstrates the potential of Zora's new feature in providing a novel way to trade and invest in NFTs while also generating revenue for creators and the platform itself.

Zora's innovative approach to NFT trading is set to revolutionize the art world, just as Pump.fun has transformed memecoins. By bringing secondary markets onchain and ensuring fair compensation for creators, Zora is well positioned to become the go-to platform for art and NFTs as a whole.
