When I first read about soul bound tokens, I got exited right away. Since the launch of the Metaverse Academy in February 2022 we also started awarding the course participants after revising their final thesis with an NFT certificate.

Since the certificates are transferable, we had to make sure that the NFT itself was bound to the person by adding the name to the NFT image and metadata. This is where soul bound tokens are a game changer. We can now create, one ERC-1155 NFT with any number of items that are not transferable.

Out of the proof of concept, The Ungovernable Token was born. It is an NFT created with unlock-protocol.com that published this concept how a token can be made nontransferable.

In the metadata, we added the private key, so anyone who sees the token can import it to it’s like Metamask for example. But it won’t be able to transfer it to another wallet.

Everyone can have it, no one can own it.
