Reveel - The Future of Payout Infrastructure

Chaos is the ladder to success!
And with web going through one of its most transformative periods, since its inception; everyone wants to hop on this wave of change, and among this chaos, wants to find their success.

Businesses and creators alike, have increasingly turned to blockchain to reap the benefits of its advantages such as decentralization, anonymity, immutability, transparency, and security. Businesses can access new markets and audiences that are not limited by geography or intermediaries while creators can build and join decentralized communities that share their values and vision, they can create and sell digital art, music, games, and other content as NFTs.

However, these opportunities come along with their own challenges. Imagine you are a musician who wants to create and sell your songs as NFTs in the web3 world. You find a singer, a guitarist, and a drummer who are willing to collaborate with you. You also have a label that supports your work and helps you market your NFTs. And of course, you have a loyal fan base that loves your music and wants to support you.

Now, how do you share the revenue from your NFT sales with all these people?
How do you make sure that everyone gets their fair share of the income, according to their contribution and agreement?
How do you share revenue with your collaborators, partners, and fans?
How do you create smart contracts that automatically split on-chain income with different stakeholders?
How do you reward your supporters and grow your community in the decentralized web?

This is where, Reveel, one of the most promising blockchain projects in the payout infrastructure space comes in.

Working Model of Reveel

Reveel is a decentralized protocol that automates accounting and revenue sharing. It allows creators and businesses to create and manage smart contracts that split on-chain revenue with their partners and collaborators, while also supporting different tiers and milestones for revenue sharing, as well as recouping advances. It offers a number of advantages over traditional payout methods, such as:

  • Decentralized: Since it is not controlled by any single entity, this makes it a more secure and transparent way to distribute earnings.

  • Dynamic payout flows: Reveel allows creators and businesses to set up dynamic payout flows for their projects. This means that they can automate the distribution of earnings to collaborators throughout the lifecycle of their project.

  • Gasless withdrawals: Reveel is gasless, so creators and businesses can withdraw their earnings without paying any gas fees.

  • Multi-chain support: Reveel supports multiple blockchains, including Ethereum, Optimism, Polygon, Arbitrum and Aurora, and some other testnets too.

  • Multi-token support: Reveel can process any token in a single contract.

  • Non-upgradable contracts: Reveel contracts are non-upgradable, which means that they can never be tampered with.

Here is how Reveel works in simple terms:

  • When a creator or business wants to set up a payout flow, they create a Reveel Revenue Path.

  • The Revenue Path specifies the terms of the payout, such as the amount of earnings to be distributed, and the recipients of the earnings.

  • Once the Revenue Path is created, it is stored on the blockchain.

  • When earnings are generated, they are automatically distributed to the recipients according to the terms of the Revenue Path.

But, what is a Revenue Path?
A Revenue Path is a smart contract that specifies the terms of a payout flow.
It includes information like the amount of earnings to be distributed, the recipients of the earnings, and the schedule for distributing the earnings.
It exists independently, and doesn’t need to be operated or maintained regularly.

Then, what are tiers, tier limits and what is their usecase?
Tiers are a way of grouping recipients of revenue, in Reveel.
Each tier has a different limit on the amount of earnings that can be distributed to it. For example, a tier might have a limit of 100 ETH, which means that no more than 100 ETH can be distributed to all of the recipients in that tier.

Tier limits are used to control the distribution of earnings in Reveel. They help to ensure that earnings are distributed fairly and that no single recipient can receive too much money.

Here is an analogy to understand these terms better:
Imagine that you are a teacher and you want to distribute candy to your students.
You could create a tier system where each tier represents a different grade level.
The first tier would be for students in kindergarten, the second tier would be for students in first grade, and so on.
You could then set a limit on the amount of candy that each tier could receive. For example, you might decide that the first tier can receive 10 pieces of candy, the second tier can receive 20 pieces of candy, and so on.
This system would help to ensure that all of the students receive some candy, but that no single student receives too much candy. It would also encourage the students to work hard and to achieve their academic goals.

Use cases for tiers and tier limits include:

  • Preventing fraud: Tier limits can help to prevent fraud. If a recipient tries to claim more earnings than they are entitled to, the tier limit will prevent them from doing so.

  • Protecting creators: Tier limits can help to protect creators from being overwhelmed by earnings. If a creator has a lot of subscribers, they might receive a lot of earnings in a short period of time. Tier limits can help to ensure that the creator does not receive too much money at once and that they have time to manage their earnings.

  • Encouraging collaboration: Tier limits can encourage collaboration. If a creator wants to distribute earnings to a large group of people, they can create multiple tiers with different limits. This will encourage people to collaborate and work together to reach the limits of each tier.

Now, let’s learn how to set up a Revenue Path -

  • Step 1:
    Go on to Reveel website.
    Connect your wallet.
It provides you with many options, if you don’t have any of them, go with metamask. Visit here to set up your metamask.

Connect your wallet here.

  • Step 2:
    Click on Create Revenue Path.
You can also switch the chain on which you want to work, from the drop-down present on the left side.

  • Step 3:
Select your Revenue Path, either from the custom Path templates already present, or click on custom revenue path to create a new one according to your needs.

  • Step 4:
Give your Revenue Path a name.
Then, decide whether you want to enable Gasless transactions or not.
Although, you will need to request access for it separately.

Gasless transactions allows users to withdraw funds from Reveel without paying any network gas fees.

Add your path name here.
  • Step5:

Now, choose whether you want multiple tiers in your revenue path or not.
If not required, do not enable it, and move on to the next step.

If required, you can add multiple tiers, set different limits for each of them, while also placing separate limits on each of the different tokens within each tier.

These limits can only be placed on ETH , WETH ,USDC and DAI for now.
On the Polygon network, you will see MATIC and WMATIC in place of ETH/WETH.

Fill in the wallet address.
Add multiple collaborators in each tier, if and as required, set their percentage shares while ensuring that total share percentage is just 100%.

Customize the Revenue Path.
Customize the Revenue Path.

Also, a 1% protocol fee is implemented when advanced features such as tiers are implemented

  • Step 6:
Put in the wallet address for the final distribution tier.
When all the limits for earlier tiers reach their breakeven point, the final distribution tier comes in effect.
The rest of the funds will continue to be distributed according to this tier, for the rest of life.

You can also choose to Enable Mutability, if you want to allow yourself or your admins to be able to edit certain aspects of the Revenue Path, such as Recipients, Shares, Tiers, Tiers Limits, at any time.

  • Step 7:
Finally, click on Create Revenue Path.
Confirm the details, click on Create Revenue Path once again.
The connected wallet will pop up, then, confirm the transaction in your wallet.
    Your Revenue Path is ready.

How to view your Revenue Path-

  • Step 1:
Navigate to “Revenue Path” present in the left side.
You will be able to see the basic info at the top. There will be a Summary Box as shown below:

Displaying the total Revenue and the available funds.

Also, other tokens are allowed to be sent to your Revenue Path address, however they will not be displayed here. Contact Reveel if you have received a token that's not listed above, and their team can help you retrieve those tokens.

  • Step 3:
On Tiers tab, you can see the different Tiers (if enabled) for your Revenue Path, as well as the Final Distribution Tier. In this view, you are able to see the progression of your Revenue Path:

    • Tier(s) that have been completed

    • Tier you are currently on

    • Tier(s) coming up

Showing all the tiers and their token limits.

How to withdraw your Funds-

  • Step 1:
Under the Revenue Paths, in the Funds tab, as shown above, you can see under the 'Available' column, the amount of funds that is available to be withdrawn. Click on the 'Withdraw' button that corresponds to the token that you would like to withdraw.

  • Step 2:
A dialog will prompt you to confirm your withdrawal. Click the 'Confirm' button. Accept the transaction in your wallet, and the withdrawal will be completed in some time.

Always keep some extra funds in your wallet to pay for the gas fees required to process the withdrawal of funds in the wallet.

Traversing through its Usecases and Applications-

Recoupment + Splits :

There’s an NFT project where an advance of 5 Eth was contributed by X, while Y and Z contributed no funds.
Now, recoupment+splits allows them to pre-distribute their revenue in such a way that X receives his initial investment back first, and then the remaining revenue is distributed between all three of them, as decided.
This feature can be applied across various fields, where many projects have different initial investment amounts from different people, and this enables them to pre-decide their revenue sharing, allowing them to avoid clashes over it in the future.

Primary + Secondary Splits :

This feature allows revenue to be distributed in a particular way up to X revenue, and when that limit is breached, the remaining revenue is distributed in an another way.

This feature has wide applications across the creator industry, especially for musicians and authors. They can allow their labels and publishers to get certain amounts of revenue upto certain amount only, and then have the authority over the remaining funds.
This has great applications in the NFT market too, to ensure distribution of royalties in a particular way.

Revenue Milestones:

As revenue increases, and tier limits are breached, the distribution can be set in such a way, that the early partners of the project receive more and more rewards.
This will help in fostering better collaborations among the team, and also will incentivize team members to put more efforts in increasing revenue.

Cap earnings:

If a project partner is supposed to receive only a certain amount, they can be allowed to get revenue upto that limit, and then removed from the revenue distribution.

Some other applications I could think of :

  • a Revenue Path that allows creators to run mass loyalty programs for their followers
So basically, a feature that lets them share some part of their revenue among their fans, but then, they will have to be allowed to put up certain mechanisms, implementing which they can select their fans’ eligibility, etc.

Collaborations-

The ecosystem is rapidly growing, and more and more projects are partnering up with Reveel, to allow it to help them with revenue sharing.

Competitors -

Reveel has no direct competition, but some of the indirect competitors include:

  • Split Protocol: A similar project that allows creators and businesses to set up dynamic payout flows. It is also gasless and multi-chain, but it is not non-upgradable.

  • Uniswap V3: It is a decentralized exchange that allows creators and businesses to distribute earnings to collaborators. However, it is not specifically designed for payout flows, but can be used for this purpose.

  • Chainlink Keepers: It allows creators and businesses to automate their smart contracts and distribution of earnings. But, it is also not specifically designed for this purpose.

SDK

The R3vl SDK enables frontend developers to integrate Reveel's smart contracts with a seamless JavaScript integration. Developers can choose from one of two integration methods:

  1. React Hooks library

  2. Asynchronous JavaScript Functions

The React Hooks library in the SDK is the optimal method for a react frontend.
The Asynchronous JavaScript functions are meant to expose lower-level functionality for alternative use cases.
