We all live in Galxe with our Galxe ID which contains our wallet addresses, credentials and links to social media like Twitter and Discord. Recently Galxe announced a new feature called “Galxe Passport” that verifies you are a valid person. If you’ve decided to get your Galxe Passport but have some concerns about it, please read through the end.
Please note that there are not enough clear official documents about Galxe Passport, and this post is a summary of my recent conversation with the team.
1. First, you log in with your wallet and then provide identifying information such as passport pages and a selfie video.
2. The provided identifying information will send to a 3rd party system “Persona”, who is in charge of verifying the information such as validity, expired, or duplicated info. The question here is: Then they will know who is behind the wallet address and this is a lack of privacy, this is not WEB3. Take a look at this picture:

As you can see, your wallet address will not share with Persona, they are just given a hash and identity information. So they do not have any information related to a wallet address.
3. Then, Persona responds whether the information is valid or not + extracted information from the document.

Galxe team confirmed that your identity information will be stored in Persona without being linked to anything else.
4. Now that you are verified by Persona, it is time to get your Galxe Passport, but what happens to your data on Galxe?

5. Galxe will ask you to set a password for encryption, so your data is always there with your Galxe Passport but nobody can read it except you.

Your identity information will be stored in “Persona” but no info about your wallet sent to them so they do not know anything about your wallet address.
Your identity information will be stored in “Galxe” but encrypted with a password you entered, so only you can read it and nobody has access to it.
Your password is not stored anywhere and in case you forget your password nobody can access your data.
For Campaigns that required Galxe Passport, your data will not pass to them, Galxe verifies that you are Galxe Passport Holder (you get a green check on that eligibility credential)
If any 3rd party requests your identity information, you decide whether to share it with them or not, since you can only access decrypted data by entering the password.
Galxe as a leader web3 company invented this KYC system that connects a KYC service (that do KYC for every industry) to the web3 world without leaking any data and I think this is a massive improvement. It will take a while to understand how the system works, and the team has announced that they are working to release full Galaxy Passport documents explaining encryption and privacy. In addition, some major issues have been discussed in the previous post and they are aware of them. Read more here: https://mirror.xyz/zzmasoud.eth/JNqPquRTxDFJP-b1MHdTrLj3kvkRwU3x4Qzm0prPCcg
