Cory Doctorow likes to disparage libertarians. It's ironic to me that the same DMCA that animates his desire to use gov to fix gov is also what rooted much of my libertarian views. Here's how.
Like many free-market builders, I found the DMCA to be quite offensive. And yet the DMCA was wildly bi-partisan. This was a 💡 moment for me when I realized an all-powerful government IS the problem. Using the government to fix the government is just an endless tug-of-war with Sisyphus.
The answer is not just to repeal anti-circumvention laws, although that should happen. The answer is to diffuse the power of government so that it cannot enact laws like this in the future.
