I'm running W.E.B. Du Bois' Data Portraits (1900) — he helped shape how we use data visualization today.
Black is in everything.
// Day 1 //
What W.E.B. DuBois had done with his students at Atlanta University shone a light on the achievements Black Americans had made in the face of overwhelming adversity and pervasive racism in the US and abroad. For over a century, these groundbreaking diagrams were kept sealed by the Library of Congress. In 2018, they were finally compiled together in a book W.E.B. DuBois' Data Portraits: Visualizing Black America and 20 graphs were displayed at Cooper Hewitt's exhibition Deconstructing Power: W. E. B. Du Bois at the 1900 World's Fair in 2022–2023.
With his work publicly available, we are able to map his work to the greater tapestry of Information Design.
Note: Day 2-8 drops between the next 2 days to catch up to the daily release for the month of feb. I am excited for you all to learn more as I have over the past week!
