Forget the Blue Whale; the largest living thing on the planet is a mushroom. Specifically, an Armillaria ostoyae (Honey Mushroom) in Oregon. Its mycelium covers nearly 2,400 acres (about 1,600 football fields) and is estimated to be thousands of years old.
