In this thought exercise I'm trying not to be too nostalgic:
- There is gold in the memory of a time when channels were used across a variety of use cases, particularly by those who don't fall under the typical builder archetype (dev)
- Truer now more than ever, I believe everyone on FC is a dev (Neynar tools gud)
- Channels are "content" streams
- The previous/current meta made everyone hate tokens
- Tokens create incentives, power distribution, provide social signal; stigma unwarranted, cultural stigma warranted
- People made and participated in communities (channels) without tokens
- Collaboration is the only path to innovation, onboarding new users, and most importantly, fun
- Tokens can facilitate collaboration; AI can too
- The miasma is real, but to operate with the assumption that we peaked would be depressing and foolish.
- Farcasters were united by a vision of crypto (and tech broadly) that was different from the hellish version that exists on twitter.
- At its best, farcaster felt like a playground
- Connections > money every time
