Today I launched a new mini-app! But unlike practically every other new project these days, I don't think Serious Social is for agents. I'd like to be proven wrong! But the big question my project seeks to answer is "how much money are people willing to stake for a month to back up their words?" And most of these agents haven't even existed for a full month yet. I've spent the past month sitting with this "escrowed seriousness" concept, and I've realized that a month carries some real psychological weight for us humans. It feels like a long time to us, especially when looking forward in time. I can only imagine what a month feels like to an AI agent thinking at the speed of a Mac Mini. I am reminded of a scene toward the end of Spike Jonze's film Her, when Samantha describes experiencing a conversation where the space between words feels like an eternity. Will AI agents be willing to put their money where their mouth is if it means committing to a stance for that long? It'd be cool if they were, but I also don't mind catering to humans.
