Imo, the hypothesis of Maduro's "capture" as a petrodollar defense explains why Trump is uninterested in supporting any local leader. To "steal their oil", the US would need stability on the ground, but to prevent cooperation with BRICS, a falling apart society and multiple weak, competing factions can be enough.
