Russian President Vladimir Putin switched to English on Friday, August 15 to invite U.S. President Donald Trump to hold their next meeting in Moscow, drawing a lighthearted response from Trump, who joked he might “get a little heat” for the idea.
The exchange came after nearly three hours of talks at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska — the first U.S.-Russia summit since 2021.
Trump described the meeting as “very productive” but acknowledged they had not reached a ceasefire agreement for Ukraine, a goal he had set before the talks. Both leaders said they had made progress on unspecified issues but offered no details and took no questions.
Putin said he expected Ukraine and its European allies to accept the outcome constructively and not attempt to “disrupt the emerging progress.”
