Algorithmic Knitting - by Stephanie Pan, Stelios Manousakis (Modulus Foundation), 2025 https://2025.algorithmicpattern.org/proceedings/7TMTMW/paper.html Interesting project, that translates algorithms into various knitting techniques such as knit-and-purl textures, fairisle colorwork, intarsia and lacework, with further research into cable textures. The pieces are focusing on Cellular Automata (CA) as a means for generating texture and colorwork patterns. Owing to the grid-based nature of this algorithm, “many fiber arts provide natural ways of depicting cellular automata”.

'Maljakko mäeltä CLXXXI' #monochrome-monday #mono 61 ⬛ ⬜ This iteration of 're-frame' is a computational collage of a landscape by Pehr Adolf Kruskopf and a still life from Alfred William Finch. The composition is at index 181 within the series. The title and this script is generated from the combination of the available metadata of the algorithmically selected artworks, based on the copyright-free, CC0-licensed collection data of the Finnish National Gallery. Made this piece in 2024 for an exhibition, organized by the Finnish National Gallery. 'Infinite Sand Sorter' - exhibited at Myriad festival, Stockholm 2024 "Infinite Sand Sorter is a drawing machine caught in an unending cycle of making very slow movements. Its performative act of marking traces in the sand echoes ancient methods of sketching, doodling, and conceptualizing ideas in the sand—practices common among children, indigenous gatherers, playful philosophers and creative tinkerers. Continuously sorting sand, the machine grapples with the harshness of physical reality—filled with friction and entropy—while trapped in an endless loop of software-driven instructions: turn, move, rest, repeat." Completed this year's Genuary event by publishing a generative artwork on @editart each day for one month ~ pheeeew I contribute these works to this week's #monochrome-monday #mono day, since most artworks are monochrome by using a dominant color only (usually ⬛ or 🟦 combined with ⬜ ) --- Thanks to the community, @pifragile for the frameworks and our discussions, @piterpasma for organizing the thing, and kudos @mikegee for the constant support ~ much appreciated! Lifeform. A shape or structure that behaves as if it’s alive or growing. Genuary day 27 Prompt credit: ManuelLarino --- A minimalist, custom artificial life system visualized as a grid of text. Agents are wondering around, exploring the space, while maintaining proximity to one another. The coloured characters with '0' are repelling, while the ones with '1' are attracting the wondering agents. Recursive Grids. Split the canvas into a grid of some kind and recurse on each cell again and again. Perfectionist’s nightmare. Genuary day 24 / Prompt credit: Sophia (fractal kitty) --- Exposing floating-point precision error, a limitation of binary arithmetic used by computers. Decimal numbers are stored as approximations, not exact values, because many cannot be represented precisely in base-2.
