Also people who experience mania also go to therapy. And these people usually have an elevated sense of self sooooo having low self esteem is not always a thing. A therapist is not a motivational speaker. Plus not every therapist is appropriate for every person. Therapists regularly refer patients to other therapists because they feel like they're not equipped to handle them and it is very common for people to go from therapist to therapist till they find one that works for them. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk 🫶🏾
Alsoooo this whole situation of people leaving therapy because they feel like they're above the guidance of the therapist is actually another manifestation of a mental illness. Their insight is probably compromised. A huge part of assessing an individual's insight is if they know they're experiencing a mental illness, if they are aware that their problem can be solved and if they are willing to cooperate with whatever steps are prescribed to help. Thinking you're above therapy is poor insight
😭idk why I'm just stumbling into this conversation but there's different forms of therapy and not all of it is talk therapy or one on one discussions. Sometimes it's peer discussions led by a professional.
Talk therapy is also not really advice. A lot of the times the therapist is just there to be a sounding board to your own thoughts and provide a safe space for you to reach the appropriate conclusions by yourself.
