In that future, true power would be known by its generosity and its commitment to do no harm. Material fortune does not reveal moral goodness. Too often, it rests on patterns of extraction and the quiet suffering of people and places we are taught not to see.

We have to make our communities inhospitable to the warmongering/genocidal/extractive logics that drive soldiers, politicians, and corporations. What's exceptionally hard is that we probably have to find ways to bring them home with loving open arms that help them find belonging in an egalitarian reality. We must stop worshiping extraction, callousness, billionaires, and endless scaling. We should measure their efficacy based on how life-giving and generative their contributions are to ecosystems (human and beyond). That's the long arc that matters. We got lost.

Almost finished shipping my first custom e-commerce for a beautiful botanical perfumery & skincare brand. Lost my non-profit environmental / climate justice job of 8 years this summer with Trump funding cuts / the economy we are in, right before starting grad school. I appreciate this. I also feel grief because Puerto Rico’s (aka Borikén’s) coral reefs and bioluminesence are dying; fading fast from human-induced climate emergency driven warming, pollution, and coastal damage. Other drivers include continued US colonial settler illegal coastal development, underfunded infrastructure, US military amphibious drills on our beaches RIGHT NOW/HISTORICALLY, and the US drone strikes of working class fishermen (that they unilateral falsely of drug trafficking. This isn’t just local; it’s a frontline in the global fight against ecological destruction fueled by climate change and industrial greed. These are the miracles we lose when we don't offer reciprocal care to our environments.
