People want a place to hang out online.
In the past that was a chronological feed of posts from accounts I follow. Online communities = yes. CT was a real place. That’s been off the table for a while.
Now X is nothing but ‘articles’ about how to make monies doing things with Claude. We’ve gone from 140 characters to a wall of blog posts. Which is fine if you’re here to read but we’ve lost the town square non sequitur part.
People want a place to hang out online. Farcaster and XMTP protocols exist. Opportunity there.

There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy.
Remember this, Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they’ve already enlisted in the cause.
Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.
And remember this: the Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear.
Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empires’s authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege.

I feel like Farcaster *protocol will non-pivot back to being an open social layer because that’s what it always was
The break out growth may come from other clients if the purple app is for trading/gambling only, depending how long the down only vibe goes on
It’s competing with all wallets, DEXs, CEXs, prediction markets, token launchers etc which is fine if you’re only focused on these kinds of things
I like Farcaster as a key piece of infra for open identity, publishing and messaging for a new generation of apps and sites like magazines, internet radio, galleries, and collaborative tools
Experiences for people who revile tokens and speculation but may happily enjoy having a profile that carries across their favourite sites and apps and enables connection with others of likeminded interests
Perhaps we’ll all meet again in some other internet era, still rocking the same FIDs
still believe in music, art, culture, and communication riding free on open protocols and the internet generally moving into new paradigms for how we do this kind of thing
2026 will be a time of rapid evolution in these areas. the past few have seen progress, forward and back, but we’ll move faster when we decouple from the idea that we need wait for new platforms to launch and be the home for all this
we’ll do it ourselves. build our own worlds and scenes. dark forests and billboards. distribution via open protocols to all the apps at once
