It's why I quit traditional media (and also turned down a generous invitation to work at Blockworks years ago) to instead start a journalistic media company to attack the problem head on: Journalism is too often looked at as a means to an end, and should be the end in and of itself.
Journalism is a great way to build up trust in a brand. We journalists know that this is very hard work. (To land scoops, or the right story at the right time and always be ahead of others is not easy.) But to the business owners, it's also expensive.
At some point, when enough trust has been extracted from the work of journalists, they become expendable — an inefficient line item that the brand no longer needs to leverage.
It is no longer accurate to describe Trump as a real estate baron.
