Insane amount of Farcaster / clanker drama or like newsworthy events this past year lmao
Gotta say one thing that came to mind for me today was the Rainbow offer
Rainbow occupies an interesting position in our eco - super embedded in Farcaster socially, but lots of flexibility from a product perspective.
Base App was built on the framework of a wallet product (cb wallet) - feels like Rainbow could similarly take a meaningful stab at the social or asset origination / launchpad problems + opportunities
Good on king for getting past cold start problems
End of the day most people are just too p*ssy to send it
Will buy some of his thing as a "good job" signal
i sold $sling - not because I don't think dev is cooking, it feels like he is
but simply because the creator coin vs protocol coin stuff is hard for me to keep straight in my mind. i like it to be clean
amazing to see this, and feels like a very significant acknowledgement of the importance of traders, and a move in their direction.
a story mb only interesting to me but fuck it....
when jesse first announced the content coin pivot I was openly super skepitical and our back and forths on X & FC about these subjects led to our first one on one call (a call I remember fondly, highly recommend having one if the opportunity arises)
at the core of our disagreement was the tension between who matters more in the asset origination game: the creators who produce the assets, or the traders who bid them & dump them later. my central thesis was that the "coin everything" tokenization of social media content meta was doomed to fail because it strayed too far out of alignment with trader incentives & motivations. traders need upside to trade, and fandom or supporting a creator isn't enough to sustain an economy bounded so tight by the # of people & the amount of $ circulating in it at the moment. I think i was right, but I was also thinking so practically, being a bit scared somehow of our collective failure to grow.
I think Jesse was wrong in someway, but he was right too - right to seek an infinite game, right that human creativity lies at the core of such a game, and right to believe whole heartedly that what we work on cannot follow the paths of the past decade, and must carve new routes into the unknown. base *has to* grow beyond "the meta." the eco has to grow towards encompassing metas in their plurality.
the path forward, imo, lies @ some intersection of the ideas we represented back then. A broke founder obsessed with the success of one or two coins, unwilling to look behind that material and difficult goal...and the celebrated, experienced eco lead so focused on a meta-vision that could move us all forward together they were imagining a world that we didn't rly exist in yet. small & practical, expansive & forward looking. yin & yang. imo focusing on aligning these poles requires focusing and diving deep on trading, on making base app the trading hub. these traders will fuel the creativity & growth of thousands of products, coins, artists, creators, makers. whoever and whatever comes next.
i know we've said it a lot but it really continues to be day one, our day to win, our day to move closer to the goal
Never in my life did I think I would own a bank vault in Ohio that has permission to release a ledger from a safety deposit box only if 5 people physically visit the bank and provide biometric auth... and in that ledger are the signers to a couple of bitcoin
Whole set up cost me millions but the peace of mind is worth it
made too much money today
And didn't even make any trades, just was well positioned
But damn it trading is so boring when you've tasted building meaningful stuff
just incredibly boring, so instead of trading today I biked 8 miles going as hard as possible and returned sooo sweaty but cleaned and did laundry and now I guess I'm richer but I don't really care
Time to drop a product or ima go insane of boredom during my "workday"
I've never once regretted spending time working on a card for someone's bday or a holiday. And way more than all the other more expensive gifts, the cards have been what people remember years and years later
Example: 5 years later, my dad reminds me of this card I made on his 68th bday
Love love love this combo of people
@mleejr is the guy I text to talk shit about some outrageous post some computer has made trashing our eco out of jealousy
Jesse's the guy who I emailed pre-clanker (second half of 2024) asking for advice cuz I wanted to go higher, harder. His advice? Get 2 years of runway. Clanker earned that in a week. I didn't last 2 years but the advice was good.
We need all kinds in the eco
