Increasingly convinced that how hard you can work is a narrow range function of personality on all but the dumbest deterministic tasks. For anything even moderately complex the only way to radically increase return is to radically increase risk. If you’re living paycheck to paycheck and your rent goes up 10% you can work 10% harder but if rent doubled you have to take the risk of working differently not harder.
Intelligence doesn’t help much because most people are already operating at the limit of their intelligence so effort-return equation already includes that.
