A message drifts #11 - A message drifts | OpenSea
By Amy Goodchild
Each image in this series is uniquely generated using a system of rules and randomness.
The messages contained within the images are composed using mindfully designed sentence structures, curated word lists and hand-coded grammatical rules. The syntax is coherent but the words are selected at random. There’s no logical reason they should say anything significant, yet they are often compelling and suggestive of meaning.
The images appear as transmissions, arriving from somewhere. Sometimes confusing, sometimes clear, they are possibly important. A mystical undertone runs through the work and the viewer is invited to interpret the messages with meaning, or to enjoy them as lyrical nonsense.
The writing is based on the artist’s own handwriting, rendered in code. The interplay between the organic and the digital underlines the question of authorship. Where did these communications originate from - the artist, the system or something else?
