Nowruz: The Persian New Year
Nowruz, meaning "New Day," is the Persian New Year celebrated on the first day of spring. Rooted in ancient Zoroastrian traditions, it symbolizes renewal, hope, and the rebirth of nature. Families gather to clean their homes (Khaneh Tekani), set the Haft-Seen table with symbolic items, and visit loved ones. The celebrations last for 13 days, ending with Sizdah Bedar, a day spent outdoors. Nowruz is more than a holiday—it’s a cultural tradition observed by millions across Iran, Central Asia, and beyond.
