I often find that people in developed countries don't "get" crypto because they don't understand why sovereignty would matter
crypto users in developed countries often have even worse takes, basically seeing it as a vehicle for their own speculation
the correct take (imo) is that crypto = sovereignty, and sovereignty matters to protect against oppression
if you've never really been oppressed in some way then it's hard to grok
critiques in the thread are fair... but also a messaging app with no backup honestly isn't very usable. it's my number one pet peeve with Signal and I'm happy they're working on it
@cassie, curious - is there a more secure/private way that Signal could build backup?
sadly we had to roll back the new arch in the Farcaster app
we ended up with a lot of perf, memory, and UX regressions even after a week or trying to squash them

NYT lawyers had an unsubstantiated hunch that people circumvent their paywall via ChatGPT and then delete history to cover their tracks
and so the judge decided to prevent OpenAI from deleting data when a user deletes history
hunch is obviously ridiculous, there are many better ways to circumvent a paywall
