learning how to setup servers and services on my own rn and i am in the area of 'i have no idea what i'm doing'. def repenting my time in big tech and then as a blockchain dev where most of those things were handled by other people 💀
type of person who gets interviewed for a job i'd love but has to say no bc i need a few months to go off and build random things that i can't get out of my mind 🥀
listened to a 3hr podcast about the history of trader joe’s and now i can’t help but ask the checkout people if they know random facts about the store’s history
my favorite facts:
- TJ’s start in the 1960s was mainly as a hard liquor store (only way to compete with 7/11’s distribution was on liquor licenses due to difficulty to acquire w/ fair trade laws helping to guarantee profits on a regulatory level)
- TJ borderline started CA’s Napa wine craze by selling wine before it was cool in the late 60s/early 70s, which predated the 1976 Judgement of Paris wine competition where Napa wine out competed French wines and established Napa wine as high quality
- TJ only started stocking groceries in the late 90’s, before that it was more of a party store (wine, nuts, cheese) with the average customer only going in once per month, now it’s weekly
So far none of the employees at Trader Joe’s knew these facts (??)

i wonder what % of the population will be on either ozempic or a bryan-johnson-esque supplement plan in 5 years
the pace of health tech, both in the negation and additive forms, is awesome to see. as a 1st gen oura ring user, it’s fun to see products that are effective beyond just the ‘monitoring’ stage
my favorite quote ever is the intro paragraph to Olaf Stapledon's Last and First Men
"Yet our aim is not merely to create aesthetically admirable fiction. We must achieve neither mere history, nor mere fiction, but myth. A true myth is one which, within the universe of certain culture (living or dead), expresses richly, and often perhaps tragically, the highest admirations possible within that culture. A false myth is one which either violently transgresses the limits of credibility set by its own cultural matrix, or expresses admirations less developed than those of its culture's best vision. This book can no more claim to be true myth than true prophecy. But it is in essay in myth creation"
if you're not chasing your own personal myth, what are you doing??
