science experiment day! typically, jewelers will use liver of sulphur to rapidly create a patina on silver. it’s a mixture of chemicals including potassium sulfide, potassium polysulfide, potassium thiosulfate, and likely potassium bisulfide. i don’t have any, so on a whim i googled whether there’s an “at-home fast and easy” way to oxidize silver, and there is! with an egg! egg whites contain sulphur in the bonds of the protein. that’s why egg yolks can turn greenish when boiled and overcooked. the sulphur contained in a single egg is enough to tarnish your silver (so be careful if you’re ever making deviled eggs while wearing your jewelry ;))
in the video, i use this method to add some color back to the creases of my silver bunny.
