my feed is basically trash now. until yesterday i hadn't been back in a month.
it's like app devs wake up everyday and go: how can I kill usability with $murderpivots.
there's a reason app & VC fail rate at 3 yrs is 85-90%.
if you have no core goal & love vanity metrics, you're $alreadydead.
two hyper-colorful, super long scarfs i've made while being mia. partially inspired by an edward gorey image but also by a single-color scarf i once owned. i've worn them out a few times & they near instantly get compliments.
now to decide how i finish. they have yet to decided if they need some metallic details and/or (contrasting?) fringes...
bengale rouge by liz moores is a near perfect amber scent and, yes, i do sleep in it & own a back-up bottle. it is *that* good.
least my snobbery isn't (enough) of an endorsement, miccaeli has written a new post in tribute to its beauty. (do we share a brain? unclear, but possible...!) enjoy! https://miccaeli.substack.com/p/the-skin-of-your-underarms
one of mine had a share and spent weeks building. another kid had an ai generated image of three puppies.
we are not raising the same human beings.
and my kid knows it.
as apple sells 'issey miyake' socks, here's a reminder of what issey was and how amazing so much of his work remains. his ability to shift from more organic forms in his spring-summer collections to more architectural lines and shapes in his fall-winter ones was so beautiful and nuanced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nhBTy8HZqAs
my favorite fragrance of the year is an orris + cigarette blend from Sy Truong. it has a distinct vibe like scents from Francesca Bianchi or Liz Moores. it has *character* and *quality.*
and miccaeli has penned a perfect post on the overall state of things, so that is a source of joy. https://open.substack.com/pub/miccaeli/p/givaudans-captives
How’s business?
"Do you like Phil Collins? I've been a big Genesis fan ever since the release of their 1980 album, Duke. Before that, I really didn't understand any of their work. Too artsy, too intellectual. It was on Duke where Phil Collins' presence became more apparent. I think Invisible Touch was the group's undisputed masterpiece..."
thanks to the multi-thread hellscape (& my brain), i've been mentally mashing-mixing these tracks parallel & alternating for 4-5 days now.
"You were born too soon
I was born too late
But every time I look at that ugly lake
It reminds me of me..."
"I know it's up for me
If you steal my sunshine..."
this is ofc normal, right?
whenever i see a r.o. post, i can't help but think: if you think you love him, your real beloved-artist-muse-maker is michèle lamy.
& then i wish we lived in a world where ppl could (just) love her & we didn't need him as a proxy-persona.
i see the stuffed animal + charm + chain entangled support creatures (aka apocalypse bags) & many of them look like (lazy) thrift store projects, which is ofc fine but also $$$$$ = lol. (yes, consumerism die, die, hahaha.)
& so i point towards the cute, ingenious elegance of the bao bao issey meow w/ LENTICULAR EYES. tho also a nod at anna sui's BROCADE ALLIGATOR bag, too, because words are fun & art.
i saw this yesterday and tried to erase it from my mind. then, nope, i woke & one brain thread was like: HOOOOOWWWWWWW DOES IT ALWAYS GO SO WRONG???? (vintage (1995) Galliano).
i made the mistake of leaving the house, only to hear rem's 'man on the moon' & the lyrics hit different these days.
"If you believed they put a man on the moon
Man on the moon (Oh-ah-ah, oh-ah-ah, oh)
If you believed there's nothing up his sleeve
Then nothing is cool..."
a sampling of a few current post-knitting, evening reads.
days are being taken up w/ art (soon), code (not soon), consulting (???), kids (always), & social events (more than i like).
༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ
i have been knitting & re-watching mr.robot in the evenings.
(i'm not sure i *should* be re-watching it rn & its giving me flashes of reading 'station eleven' in jan of 2020......)
in any case, i was bad & got some new yarn in preparation for hermit mode, code-planning, brain spinning, vibe out mode.
can you tell i like color....???
i explained something along these lines to my daughter last night when she asked if i was a 'famous' artist.
i told her no & that it wasn't a goal of mine. she asked why.
i told her that to be famous you have to appeal to many people, and most people are 'mid' —middling taste, middling intellect, middling values—and that is boring.
also, i am disinterested in compromising my values & using evil to attain things, but that's a different topic.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
