Markets have always focused on Venezuela’s $17 trillion in oil reserves.
But a critical reality has been largely overlooked:
Venezuela is likely one of the largest active holders of Bitcoin in the world.
According to intelligence reports, starting in 2018, the Venezuelan regime systematically began accumulating #BTC and #USDT —
through gold swaps and by forcing oil export settlements in USDT to bypass international sanctions.
After the failure of the Petro project, the regime realized that USDT can be frozen. As a result, it gradually converted its holdings into Bitcoin.
Total reserve value: $56–67 billion
Equivalent to: over 600,000 BTC
Approximately: 3% of Bitcoin’s circulating supply
In 2024, Germany’s sale of 50,000 BTC triggered a 15–20% market correction.
Here, we’re talking about a position 12 times larger.
A large-scale market sale is highly unlikely.
The more probable outcomes are:
Asset seizure
Funds being locked due to legal proceedings
Or held as a “strategic reserve” by the U.S. Treasury
This is not a signal to buy or sell
