While the Sleepers dream, there is money to be made. Jace was an information broker, but he was happily oblivious to the data that he transferred. In that way he guessed he was asleep too.
While there were plenty of Vigilants who were idealistic and fighting for the cause, Jace was more pragmatic. Perhaps it was the nature of his cybernetics. Neither the wired reflexes of a street samurai, nor the implanted control chips of droid casters, his horns were merely solid state quantum encrypted data stores that safely and smoothly trafficked confidential information available only to the sender and receiver. With the hacking of every wave and particle in the ether, a Vigilant delivered peer to peer packet via his (and others) horn spikes was the way the most sacred data traveled. Some called it the sneaker net. Which reminded him to put on his, and be out the door.
The city was predawn, the best time to travel. Bad actors were less awake and Jace was always alert to the literal price on his head….
