The Discord has been buzzing about 888Mooncat’s proposal to lock metadata. This proposal has had more turn out than probably any other Bastard DAO proposal with more than 1,500 BGANs in attendance. There has also been some heated discussions on the topic as well. It seems most people are in favor of locking metadata at some point, but that the lock should happen gradually and not through a blanket proposal. We are all very passionate about our BGANs, and 888Mooncat had the best intentions of growing the DAO. 888Mooncat is not wrong for saying new collectors don’t want surprises when it comes to their BGAN Punks, and this is very likely true for large investors as well. They also emphasize the need to move the collection on-chain, and in a way finalizing the metadata helps facilitate this. And how these steps lead to Financiation of our NFTs.
These kinds of discussions are a big deal for the DAO. Even though this proposal was voted down it highlighted some of the uncertain areas associated with the collection. And there will very likely be a follow-up proposal to achieve the tasks necessary for moving us on-chain, creating permanence, and moving us into the intersection of DeFi and NFTs. 888Mooncat took the initiative to light this fire. The results for the House of BGANs are officially here. Congratulations to the 9 folks elected to represent the voting power of the DAO. We’ve already experienced a need for them in the last FloorDAO vote, which we were unable to participate in because their voting window was too short and our’s was too long. This is another instance of the Bastard DAO experiment in small governance.

In the NFT space we see the cc0 vs intellectual property argument emerge pretty often. This time we’re seeing it because the Moonbird’s CEO changed their mind. Which is just wrong. Every collector should know what they’re getting into from day 1. But we rarely talk about where BGAN Punks fall in this argument. From the beginning Berk held a “your BGAN, your call” mentality with his creations. Even going so far as to write a smart contract for collectors to write their own licenses for their BGANs (yes, collectors can even make them public domain).

But of course after a few days, GAN Father Berk has updated the bastardganpunks.club front end to make the “Your BGAN, Your Call” contract more user friendly. And somehow more gas efficient, as gas through his front end is cheaper than through etherscan. The feature to view all of the BGAN Punks with rights is very cool too. Good work Berk!

M4T has become slightly more active in the Discord lately and has even voted on a couple of proposals, so some folks have been asking who he is. M4T was an early minter to BGANs (and fidenzas, and many other NFTs), he was one of the original 9 multisig signers for the Bastard DAO, he bought the iconic “No Neck” BGAN 2551 from Doodles founder (check the transaction history), and holds the honor of being the largest BGAN Punks V2 whale with 294 in a single wallet. He’s sold a total of 0 BGANs.

In July a proposal passed to create a BACKGROUND COLOR: BLACK trait, and it looks like the major marketplaces have updated their filters to accommodate the metadata change. Shoutout to Snooplion for staying on top of all the recent changes.
The DAO claimed 13.676 $BGAN rewards from NFTX and compounded its xBGANWETH LP. This LP has proved to be a profitable income source for the DAO, and moves us closer to achieving deep liquidity. xBGANWETH also has voting power on our governance Snapshot, which benefits the House of BGAN and so doubly the DAO itself.
FloorDAO has used their xBGANWETH to participate in their first Bastard DAO proposal. Their metagovernance proposal allows their governing community to decide how the DAO votes. For BGAN Punks our DAO is one of the most important qualities of the entire collection, and it’s cool to see other DAOs participating.
We see a lot of creative folks in the BGAN community Shooter McGavin is commissioning custom patches and Bastardizing his clothes. While Snarflakes has released another NFT toy “NFT TV.” He operates a small etsy shop where he sells hand-made NFT displays.

The votes are in for the newly elected Bastard DAO multisig signers. Sigwitnitwit and Danner.eth just barely beat bgans.eth and Witrebel for the roles. All of the nominees are very strong community members. It for sure wasn’t an easy vote.
It was a sad day for Luna Crypto when he woke up to see all of his BGAN babies missing from his wallet. He posted in #General asking for help and our Bastard sleuths answered! Wassoshi checked the chain and found the scammer’s wallet with the stolen BGANs pretty fast, bgans.eth was trying to buy them to return to Luna, and Rosco found unravelled the scam through revoke.cash. It’s a bummer the scam happened, but thankfully all his bastards found their way back home.

There was a proposal opened to pay the Multisig Signers, and from the ensuing discussions Qexd shared another Rosco Kalis creation: SafeStats.xyz. This shows the wallets that have Gnosis Safe signing allowances, and counts the number of signed and executed transactions. It’s a good tool for the sake of transparency and accountability.
Polygon team member Crypto Texan, and BGAN enjoyooooor Patrick McCorry are educating the masses and repping BGAN Punks. One thing the Ethereum community saw in the mass adoption wave of 2020 was the rise in legitimacy of CryptoPunks. The Punks community were generally regarded by new comers as trusted veterans who knew their shit when it came to learning about the new-to-them ecosystem. And here we have folks like Patrick legitimizing BGANs. You love to see it.

Green Onions has been in the game since 2017 and has been full time since 2021. “At the time, I was purely focused on the money aspects of it. But over time, with more lurking on Twitter, 4chan, + other sources, I became enamored with the values of the web3 space. The values of self-sovereignty, ownership, privacy, disintermediation, decentralization, and all the usual buzz words. But not only that, I found the community culture very unique - everyone was compassionate with each other and enjoyed intellectual dialogues on a medium like Twitter… and everyone was so passionate about their own particular niche. It was captivating. The culture in this space is strong, and continues to be a draw for me everyday.”
Like many of us his first NFTs were ENS and NBA Top Shots. A man of many wallets, he likes clicking around, experimenting, and learning about new trends in the space. His first NFT mint was J48BAFORMS by Brother J48 “It was pretty exhilarating to play around with minting--I think because it’s very gacha style--you never know what you might get!”
I like playing with new stuff, new interfaces, and getting familiar with the web3 UX - because I’m pretty sure web3 will hit mainstream like a fucking landslide.
On the efforts that won him BotM Green Onions says, “I have been attempting to be more of a BGAN hype man the past few months, and I definitely tried to take it up a notch in the last month. I find the stuff the community is working through, such as: metadata trait categorizing, the vetoing House of BGANs, the constitutional amendments, or the snapshot votes, fascinating. So I try to report back to it to the Twitter community.” He also commented on how there’s a disconnect between Discord and NFT Twitter. “Even for me, I never really stayed in touch on the Discord until recently when I realized people are actually SO DOPE in there, and the convo is so enrapturing to follow. I aim merely to serve as a bridge between the divide, and hoping to see more of the NFTwitter folks jump on the Discord more!”
I think something important to share is for a lot of the NFT folks to remember why we are here. And if you don’t remember or know, then brush up on the core values the web3 space espouses. Ed Snowden, Julian Assange, Virgil Griffith, even the recent arrest of Tornado Cash developer Alexey Pertsev--these are only the first warning shots by the governing authorities on what we can do with our money, our data, our privacy, our self-sovereignty.
The fight with regulators, anti-crypto people, big nation state governments… it starts with you. Starts with us. And the best way to win the war will be with better memes ala Punk6529 and at the base, stronger values.
Blockchain might end up being a 0 to 1 invention as far-reaching and influential as the Gutenberg printing press. We can build either the Death Star with it (because the governing authorities will have co-opted it to build a panopticon surveillance state) or liberate humanity (because our values and our rational optimism will have unlocked the greatest potential of this tech).
