Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim has downplayed Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s public backing, insisting performances — not promises — will determine his future. Speaking ahead of tonight’s crunch clash with Liverpool, the Portuguese coach admitted he “feels the pressure more than anyone” and refuses to hide behind the idea of having time to build.
Amorim challenged his squad to prove they’re improving “every weekend,” and said Anfield is the perfect stage to show United are playing better on both sides of the pitch. He referenced last season’s draw at Liverpool as evidence his team can compete when it matters.
On squad fitness, Lisandro Martínez is close to full training, while several internationals have returned in good condition. The manager also praised young goalkeeper Senne Lammens for his composure, joking he’s “not Schmeichel yet” but has made a strong first impression.
With scrutiny mounting and a fierce rival ahead, Amorim made it clear: support from above means nothing without a statement on the pitch.
