Nottingham Forest have sacked Ange Postecoglou just 39 days into his tenure, drawing the curtain on one of the shortest and most turbulent managerial stints in Premier League history.
The Australian coach, appointed in early September with hopes of reviving the club’s season, failed to win a single match in eight attempts. His fate was sealed after a dismal 3–0 home defeat to Chelsea, where club owner Evangelos Marinakis reportedly stormed out of the directors’ box before the final whistle. Postecoglou was dismissed moments after full-time.
Supporters had grown frustrated with Forest’s lack of identity on the pitch, while critics say Postecoglou inherited an unbalanced squad with little time to implement his trademark attacking style. His bold plea for patience — promising “a trophy” if given time — only amplified the shock of his abrupt exit.
Forest now turn to their third manager of the season, with early reports linking Sean Dyche and Roberto Mancini to the vacancy. The dismissal has sparked wider questions over the club’s direction, recruitment strategy and ownership impatience.
For Postecoglou, hailed on arrival as a fearless innovator, the City Ground chapter ends as quickly—and dramatically—as it began.
