Shock and grief have hit West African football after 18-year-old Senegalese goalkeeper Cheikh Touré was found dead in Kumasi, Ghana. He reportedly travelled after being promised a professional trial by fake football scouts.
Authorities say he was kidnapped on arrival and held for ransom. When the money couldn’t be raised, he was killed. Senegal’s government has confirmed his death and is working with Ghanaian police on the investigation.
The tragedy as sparked fresh warnings to young players and families about fraudulent scouting schemes that prey on hopeful talents across the region.
