Designed to be a collectible game where minting and collecting the NFTs mimics the experience of bird watching irl, i.e. going out in nature with a pair of binoculars, listening for bird songs, seeing the birds, trying to identify them based on your experience, opening up Merlin app.
https://carousel.trade/collection/songbirdz
Each item in the collection is a type of bird
Species (i.e. Northern Cardinal, Atlantic Puffin, Great Horned Owl)
Image (Dalle-3 -> IPFS)
Audio recording of song/call (Cornell Guide to Bird Sounds v2021 -> IPFS)
Life List
800 unique species of birds to collect
Varying rarities, i.e. “1 of 1” species vs. a species with 10, 20, 50 birds
Check off a species on your life list via identifying a new bird (i.e minting) or purchasing off marketplace (i.e. carousel)
Once you’ve owned it, it’ll be permanently recorded on your life list
Compete with others to see who can be the first to collect all 800 species
Correlates to irl bird watching and using eBird to keep track of your life list
Minting Mechanics
Unlike most other projects, you can view all the "unidentified" birds in the wild and pick the ones you like
You must correctly identify the species (i.e. type) of bird based on its image and song (from 5 possible answer choices)
Price is 0.0015 ETH (~$6.00) -> fairly cheap
If incorrect, refunded 83% (0.00125 ETH) and you can try again
If correct, NFT is automatically sent to you
Verified fully onchain for each bird via merkle proofs in the solidity contract
Themed Flocks
10 flocks - each with 1,000 birds
Rolled out one-at-a-time over the past 1.5 years, every 1-2 months
Each flock introduces 50-200 new species into the collection
Distinct theme which determines the species included and style of the images
Night & Day -> 500 birds most active at night (i.e. Owls) vs. 500 birds most active during the day (i.e. Robins)
Masters of Disguise -> birds that are adept at camouflaging and hiding into their surroundings, earthy tones, bird blends into image background
We run 3-month long competitions where people compete to earn “birder points”. Top 10 win prizes.
Competitions
Designed to mimic the irl “Big Year” or “Big Day” competitions.
Big Onchain Summer, Big Onchain Fall, Big Onchain Winter, Big Onchain Spring
Earn birder points:
Identify new species -> 10 pts
Buy on secondary > mint price -> 3 pts
Buy on secondary < mint price -> 1 pt
Daily Streaks -> bonus pts
Additional free ways to earn points via social media activity
