Welcome new faces to the Lost Souls community. I wanted to take an opportunity to provide a little background about what the Souls have been up to since mint, this past August.
August
As you could tell we minted on August 8th, in ~3 hours! I had been working on a Harberger tax system back in 2019 with NFTs, and as the idea progressed and the team expanded more and more over the years it became clear that NFTs would have their day in 2021. We had been working on the Lost Souls for a few months and designed them so they sat at the base of our DeFi ecosystem. In August decided it was time to mint, we maybe had 1000 followers on Twitter and were convinced the NFT market had topped. While we had confidence in our DeFi ambitions and the Lost Soul art, what we didn’t expect was the next three months of pure NFT insanity.
September - November
We were up against it, non-stop barrage in the discord, constantly trying to push out companion mints to keep up with 100s of projects minting daily, sucking the attention out of the twittersphere, obvious scammers minting and whatnot. We were barely keeping our heads above water but since the team has been around for a few cycles we knew the mania wouldn’t last. Hype will die down, scammers would be brought to light, so we trudged on.
December-February
Finally, with some reprieve from the constant barrage, the team was able to get down and finalize our DeFi plans. We shift focus away from fostering discord, community events, deploying new companions mints, and really honed in on the bread and butter, the Ectoverse.
Without our conviction in the Ectoverse plans, we would have never made it through the past few months. I understand that at some points the community may have been in a lul but the trade-off we made at the end of last year was to shift focus fully on the long term. There’s a saying, “if you have 1 dog you have a dog, if you have 2 dogs you have half a dog, and if you have 3 dogs you have no dog at all” referring to attention allocation. While we didn’t have the most events, twitter spaces, or social media presence, we made sure to be in the discord every day, every question answered, and gm/gn’s given.
Now, on the eve of releasing our founding paper (next few days!) we are shifting focus to spreading the good word of the Ectoverse and Souls far and wide, our plan is rock solid, our conviction stronger than ever, and as we finish development, you will see the Souls in every corner of web3. We’re dusting off the discord channels, releasing software, taking Twitter by storm, and closing partnerships left and right all focused on one goal, building the best metaverse we can… the ECTOVERSE.
