I held on to the fear
Of falling all in
As I did in the past
Holy righteous and fierce
It became a small monster
Eating into my gut
A muffled balloon
Fruitless womb in a rut
Dipped a toe, went ahead
Touched the pain, heard the dead
Tendrils and arteries
Oxygen slash dread
And then it was gone
That fear I had nursed
The monster is shrinking
My peace has returned
I held on to the fear
Of falling all in
As I did in the past
Holy righteous and fierce
It became a small monster
Eating into my gut
A muffled balloon
Fruitless womb in a rut
Dipped a toe, went ahead
Touched the pain, heard the dead
Tendrils and arteries
Oxygen slash dread
And then it was gone
That fear I had nursed
The monster is shrinking
My peace has returned
