Due to the worldwide fanfare of Football as well as being the global front-runner in sports, it was only a matter of time until the first fully fledged Web3-Football based league came into fruition, "Urban Ball Fight".

Urban ball Fight is the brainchild of Sean Garnier and Ex Sports, which is a 1v1 Football league where winners of local 1v1 tournaments work their way up to playing in the world finals. Built on the Binance Smart Chain, top tier talents are awarded with NFT recreations of their likeness which is then plugged into a Web3 play to earn game (Ex Sports App) where these athletes earn a percentage of the earned tokens.

UBF isn't an idea that has stayed in the thought phase. In 2023 Sean and the Ex Sports team held events all over the world including cities such as London, Sao Paulo, Paris, Jeddah, and many more. The winners of these events participated in the world finals in Dubai.

The future remains hidden behind closed doors at this stage. While Sean has made genuine attempts to involve his communities on Web2 social platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and Youtube; no information or announcements have been given for the advancement of the 1v1 league, leaving progress up in the air. To add further murkiness to the water, EX Sports have also remained silent in regards to updates.

Clearly in it's early stages, UBF brings something new to the table. While 1v1 Football isn't new, the Web3 integration is what sets this league apart. The infusion of the play to earn game and NFTs to the ecosystem shows strong intent, but until the first attempt in 2023 is repeated or improved upon, this league will stay as a one off, which we all hope isn't the case.
