Takeaways and lessons learned:
"I'm gonna mint the next BAYC" Nope. Survival bias. We don't hear from millions of those like me and only from a few geniuses during the bull run who made it.
"The higher the mint price the better the project" Not really, it might have way more hype but it doesn't mean the team is skillful or the project deserves that evaluation. Most things are hype driven in this place. Even good solid fundamentals projects are really undervalued (for now) and that's the one I've started to look into.
"NFTs are useless" Well I was always curious where the value was coming from because it definitely wasn't because of art (in most instances). I've come to the conclusion that 'The Community' aspect is one of, if not, the most important part. I prefer healthier communities long-term and then ones my values are aligned with even though it might be not better financially.
Spending THIS FUCKING MUCH ~11E on Anata. This helped me to free up my mind a little bit in terms of 'wasting' my Eth. And even though in this instance I ended up losing a lot, I've gained an ability to buy assets that are considered and still considered as INSANELY expensive. Also, because of my first big bet going wrong it basically showed me the worst circumstance that I had to live through. This allowed me to have a possibility to look into other expensive assets like ENS at that time. Additionally, I accepted my emotions and looked into my copium which even had some wisdom for me.
Tax loss harvesting It was my doomsdays copium strategy from the beginning and I thought it would be really unlikely while in reality it was a pretty likely circumstance which had ended up playing out. Me accepting the loss of my Eth helped me to see how I can play it out in a really good way by selling at the lowest $ prices as I could while not sacrificing even more ETH. I had thought about listing really below price just so I can tax loss harvest a lot during ETH dips and when it was in 3 digit ranges.
Only trading on emotions Well I learned it in my life before but this strategy wasn't the best back then and even with my current awareness of my inner world. Having intellectual and rational financial parts while listening to emotions seems to produce the best result. While I do have some assumptions and estimations, I'm also checking in with my feelings and how I feel about investments and, in particular, when big news happens. Creating a peaceful place to look into intellectual and emotional parts that work in cooperation to create as much of a perfect balance as possible seems to work really well.
"Small collections are destined to the moon. BAYC had 10k, Anata has only 2k so HIGHER FLOOR EASY. And they are rarer too" Just because something has less of a supply doesn't mean it is going to end up having a higher price. Also applies to rarities and then to a mixture of rarities with supplies. Having had that experience has been pretty useful in my ENS journey.
Post reveal dump It is a thing! Mystery and possibility seems way better than certainty. Project with great fundamentals and a team and with a vision that is CLEAR is probably gonna be worth less short-term in this space than projects that are mysterious and drop hints and release a little bit. Announcement of announcements seems to move markets more than decent whitepapers.
WETH bids, especially collection offers Juicy AF!
Liquidity is king It's always been interesting to me how people use the word 'liquidity' in this space Intuitively. What I hear they really mean by that is opportunity cost.
I might expand on WETH offers and liquidity in some other posts
Story: This is how it went down.
Minted my lion (EVMavericks#337) on 4/21. There was already an NFT talking chat there so I was curious ofc. I didnt know anything really about NFTs prior to that. Yes, I've heard of them. I was sorta jealous and neutral and thought they were dumb. Anyways back to the discord chat, I saw people started talking about different ones so I thought like 'fuck it'. I'm gonna ape real quick into the next one and it's gonna move and I'm gonna sell the next BAYC. And I thought the higher the price the more likely it's succeed because the team or just the crowd should know something. it was a Dutch auction for Anatas and I didn't plan on bidding more than 0.7E which was a LOOOOT for me to spend on NFTs cause before minting my lion I never touched stuff but I managed to get a feel by buying or minting a few cheaper ones within the days. The mint for DA was starting to close earlier my next day so I woke up to see how it was gonna play out. I started quickly rising above 0.7E and 1E a couple hours prior to the close and I thought like ok I can try 1 or 2E max, it seems like it's a decent bet. Long story short. I ended up buying thru mint pre reveal by paying like 5.25E. It of course went up to like 6.9E pre reveal and then started dumping but I was really inexperienced and was just waiting for the reveal and it being the next big thing and was planning to sell it at like x10 (LOL). After the reveal I thought rarity was the shit and that's when I started using all these sites too and scooped up a somewhat ~50 rarity (shitty confidence according to trait sniper) in the 2K collection. It kinda sucked cause I was trying to bid on multiple and even the one I got sold the person listed it for 4E ish for some reason and mod scooped it up and accept by WETH bid ofc so that didn't feel good neither, knowing the other person didn't even get that extra. Ended up holding the project for the long-term as it kept going lower and lower and realized that I made mistakes and I wanna exit and I figured I can tax loss harvest. Tax loss harvesting was in the back of my mind since the beginning and it was my copium strategy. I slowly started executing it in the late June-early July after the complete dumps during June when I actually managed to pick up another anata for 0.7e which is ACTUALLY a decent bet, finally. Ended up selling my non-rarity one for the FP the project prob deserves so 1.1E. My rare ones managed to get sold for 1.69E (POWER OF THE MEME NUMBERS, I felt it even back then when I didn't even rock 696). So that's it. Quick recap in a screenshot.
