What are zk-SNARK and zk-STARK. How Aleo uses zk-SNARK
You’ve probably heard about zk-SNARKs or zk-STARKs a lot. Let’s understand what they are and how they are used in blockchain. To understand the concept of zk-SNARKs and zk-STARKs, it is necessary to first outline the problem they solve. Lack of privacy and scalability are two of the biggest obstacles preventing mass adoption of blockchain technology. Blockchain looks like an advanced technology, but it also has a serious drawback — every transaction you make is known to everyone. As a result,...

StarkGate is a bridge for Starknet. A brief overview.
Currently, there are quite a few different blockchains and different L2 solutions to improve Ethereum scalability. Users often need to transfer their assets from one blockchain to another or to an L2 network. That’s why bridges fulfill this task. For Starknet, the main bridge that connects it to Ethereum is StarkGate. You can transfer your ETH or other coins from Ethereum to Starknet and vice versa. This bridge may seem a bit more complicated than the others, but it has its advantages.Which w...

Control of personal data is very important. Until recently, we didn’t have tools on how to achieve this. But the development of blockchain technology, ZKP technology is changing everything.
Let’s take a look at a new product like zPass.
zPass is a new technology that makes it easier to share data securely online. zPass runs on the Aleo blockchain and utilizes ZKP technology. With zPass, you can confirm some data about yourself without fully disclosing all of your personal information.
With zPass, you, the holder of your private documents, can upload them on your private device or server first. Then, you can create a “proof” that validates what you are saying is true without revealing the actual documents themselves or any other extraneous information about you. That proof can then be passed onto the Verifier, who confirms that you have met their verification requirements. The Verifier can do all this without seeing and storing your personal data.
Like in the physical world, three major participants work together on zPass to provide proof and validate a user’s information online: the Holder, the Issuer, and the Verifier.
The Holder is the person whose identity or other claims are being verified.
The Issuer is a trusted authority that provides proof — typically in the form of an ID or other documents — that what you claim is true.
The Verifier verifies the information about you, its validity. On the web, there’s an additional challenge: How can a Verifier be certain that the digital credential hasn’t been tampered with or falsified? Zero-knowledge proofs (ZKPs) on the privacy-focused Aleo blockchain can help.
We can verify information online and who it came from with digital signatures. When scrutinized and matched, that signature confirms both that the content is valid and that it is a credible source in a way that can’t be replicated or forged by anyone. Verifying these digital signatures with the Issuer’s public address ensures the data’s truth and its trusted origin.
When holders generate their zPass from their documents privately, the signatures from the physical documents are verified before adding the credential data to the digital record on Aleo, confirming the origin of that information automatically for Verifiers. And because the blockchain is immutable, those transactions cannot be digitally altered or changed, meaning all parties can trust the data’s integrity.
zPass shows itself to be a trusted intermediary built on Aleo that allows all parties involved to have confidence in the integrity and security of the data they are sharing and verifying online.
