Hey hey, so I wrote that exactly two years ago. And never published it, for whatever reason. So I'm sharing it right now, it's about data, APIs, zkTLS & AI. Have a good read;
We're all too familiar with Noah's Ark. God wanted Noah to save as many animals as possible, before the great deluge. During one year, God flood the world with water, making every corrupted soul drawn. This month, it will be one year after ChatGPT’s launch, and the least we can say is that the Internet deluge is happening and is not stopping yet.
The world's data are being extracted from any possible dataset, trained and transformed to reset the Internet as we know it for the last dozens of years. Yet, hopefully, AI is only focused on open-source unpersonalized data. While it’s already a huge market, it’s somewhat limited to human knowledge - forgetting human habits & preferences, something that’s become critical during the last 10 years, the Web2 era.
Our Internet fingerprints are becoming crucial. People spend years building Twitter feeds and social graphs. TikTok user-experience is so heavily depend on the user’s trained algorithm. Yet, this data is too personalized to be used by LLMs - and too private & leaky to be available using a classic API.
Classic apps are also constrained : we’ve reached an innovation plateau in a lot of different sectors, that’s why every new technical innovation is so overlooked.
That's why we can't get rewarded as a Spotify’s fan when I buy tickets concert on Ticket Master.
That's why Google isn't able to provide contextual responses.
That's why I get irrelevant movies' recommendation on Disney +, compared to Netflix.
And that's why I need to solve captchas every time I browse the Internet.
For a lot of industries, innovation is a taboo word. They are glued by monopolies and lack of interoperability. Step by step, they are cutting ways to build on top or opt-out, by removing APIs. Because they understood that contextual data are worth every penny of their business.
Spotify, Google and Netflix are using personalization & network effect as their primary fidelity driver.
We can't just sit here - crossed arms, doing nothing about it.
Crypto has the firepower to enable it. What AI did to general knowledge, crypto will inflict it on contextual data.
From first principles, crypto is a basic-shared database. Less efficient, but multiplayer, accessible everywhere in the world and built using heavy cryptography.
This database also gets meaningful value from networks effects : we've got ways to index, query and frameworks to develop on top of it. Tooling is becoming top-notch, but multiplayer experiences are still niche in crypto : we're constrained by the available data on the network.
While there are great protocols starting to create & feed data on these ecosystems, we won't ever be able to equate the amount of personalized data available in the Web2 world. Moreover, current data is highly situational - if you bought a Penguin NFT, what does it tell about you ?
Crypto’s Ark operation is meant to mobilize users, allowing them to bring their own data to the network, empowering dApps while growing the available dataset.
How can we do that ?
First, let's play our game : financialization has always been a great way to acquire users and incentivize them to become active in the network. But right now, we're mostly incentivizing the same 1000 users already on the ecosystem. Let's launch a true Web2 vampire attack.
Noah’s Ark lasted for 1 year. We will approximately have the same window of time when people will be able to export easily their data from Web2 to Web3, using public APIs (Spotify, GitHub, …), archive exportation features or scrapping tools.
Every data uploaded on the network will expand the network value abruptly. And every user should be rewarded for this. These shared data layer will also create tremendous value for startups, enabling new use-cases & fixing cold start problems.
Crypto will become the Internet API, powered by programmatic revenue sharing, automatic data enhancement and fully homomorphic encryption. Imagine being able to integrate the world's personalized data with 7 lines of code ? Crypto will enable individuals to own & build their thought matrix, their enumerated database of accessible, conscious knowledge & context.
