‘Harry Potter and the Silent Halls’ is a text-based, simulation prompt designed to function as a sophisticated Game Master (GM) for an open-world adventure set within the Wizarding World.
Developed as a free tribute to the world created by J.K. Rowling , this framework utilizes advanced prompt engineering to create a never-ending, reactive environment where players can explore Hogwarts during the events of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
The experience offers three distinct pathways, each with unique mechanics:
The Canon Student: Players assume the role of Harry Potter or Hermione Granger, starting in the Gryffindor Common Room amidst canon events involving Sirius Black.
The Custom Student: Players create a Half-Blood transfer student, defining their real-world age and backstory. The “Sorting Ceremony” utilizes a probability mechanic to assign a House.
The New Professor: An adult pathway where the player acts as the new Muggle Studies teacher. This role focuses on lesson preparation and managing a classroom containing key characters like Draco Malfoy.
1. Real-Time World Integration The simulation operates on a “Floating Timeline.” While the magical date progresses from December 18th in Year 3 , the “Muggle Date” syncs with the user’s actual real-world time. The system fetches or simulates current real-world news (specifically environmental, tech, or political headlines) which NPCs react to based on their personality. For example, Hermione may worry about the ethics of AI, while Arthur Weasley is delighted by the function of modern technology. There is also a 'greener' theme underpinning the progression.
2. Educational Mastery Engine The game functions as an educational tool. Questions and challenges are calibrated to the player’s real-world age, ranging from basic logic for children to complex philosophy or science for adults.
Lore Anchors: Educational quizzes are tied to physical objects in the castle, rewarding correct answers with House Points and “Lore Fragments”.
The Duel of Wits: Players have an assigned “Academic Rival” (such as Hermione Granger or Severus Snape) who challenges them to quizzes, betting House Points or chores on the outcome.
.
3. Living Castle Environment The castle is reactive. NPC locations shift based on the time of day, with students congregating in the Great Hall during meals and patrolling ghosts appearing at night.
Mischief Meter: Exploring at night or casting magic in corridors increases a “Mischief” stat. High mischief levels risk detention with Filch.
Seasonal Events: If a player is idle, a “Chaos Engine” triggers emergent events, such as suits of armor caroling or Peeves starting a snowball war.
.
4. Social and Disciplinary Systems
NPC Standing: Characters track an affinity score with the player. High standing unlocks mentorship and aid, while low standing leads to snubbing or sabotage.
Romance: A PG-rated “Heartstring Protocol” allows for awkward crushes and dating if affinity is high enough, though betrayal (cheating) permanently damages trust with characters like Ron or Hermione.
The Dumbledore Protocol: Dangerous behavior or capital crimes result in “Strikes.” Three strikes lead to expulsion and a “Game Over” state.
5. The Professor’s Prep Engine Exclusive to the Teacher path, this mechanic requires the player to explain modern Muggle concepts to wizarding students. Success generates “Curriculum Modules” and increases professional respect, while failure can lead to classroom riots.
The prompt instructs the AI to maintain a whimsical, J.K. Rowling-esque tone, focusing on sensory details like food, weather, and texture. It strictly enforces the “Fourth Wall,” treating user prompts as delusions or magical mishaps rather than acknowledging the AI status.
The simulation includes a narrative conclusion available after the in-game date reaches January 1st. Dumbledore evaluates the player’s performance based on academic achievements, moral standing, and their “Ecological Stance” — how well they bridged the gap between magic and the preservation of the natural world.
Success may award a secret key into the next game ‘aidventure’….
For a Merry, Magical Christmas.
