I'm quite aloof when I look at other people's rave reviews and excitement about something, and I find it the most rational approach when my friends are telling me in rainbow colors about a project or some social network is abuzz with reports of something fantastic and life-changing.
Yet trends take their toll, even if you are a rational person. Quantity is starting to take precedence over quality. And people, even those who don't like change, are forced to adapt to the changing reality. That's exactly what Farcaster and Warpcast, a social network.
And I started my own account, welcome:
Everything you need to know about Farcaster from a technical perspective is in the official documentation and on GitHub.
I watched a number of videos that are dedicated to describing: what Farcaster is and what thoughts the creators had in finding the best solution for social decentralized interaction.
Just 4 points that Farcaster needs to solve by replacing centralized social networks:
Identity
Authentication
Authority
Consistency
The first two points are dealt with by quite a few social protocols that are also looking for solutions to decentralize social networks. As for the last two, a separate article is needed.
In the Farcaster documents I found quite an interesting narrative about the impact of centralized networks on the development of one's account, you can read it here.
The article looks good, but when we get to the reality of using W, we have to face the reality of shadow banning and hiding the user account from other people, even from friends.
A Warpcast shadow ban is when a user is not seen by certain profiles, such as who they are subscribed to and where they participate in the projects social life.
This begs the question: is it that easy to develop your Warpcast profile?
If we go to Dan Romero's posts on Warpcast, we find an interesting cast that says it's much easier for new users to evolve in W than those who joined even a month ago. And it's likely that this is a hint for us old users to create new accounts.
For context: the W team decided in March to change the rules and took away all users' active badge, the algorithm indiscriminately stripped all users of that badge and then some users were given a Power badge thanks to which the user has visibility (their posts and casts) to everyone else.
Who needs W accounts? As a rule, W accounts are registered by people who:
0) influence: zero competition at the initial stage;
1) want to develop their crypto-channel by publishing crypto fresh news;
2) digital artists, NFT creators, creatives;
3) developers;
4) users of DeFi, GameFi etc. protocols who want to participate and contribute to the social crypto life of various projects;
5) people who are starting their way in crypto and came to make necessary acquaintances, show their skills acquired in usual life and useful in Web3;
5) airdropers.
Here's an example. You have created an account in order to find friends and participate in social crypto-life, subscribed to groups and those who run them to stay in touch. The owner of the channel to develop his project can ask users to perform various tasks, such as making a recast and leaving a comment under the cast. But W algorithms work in such a way that they hide your post from the owner of this channel and your recast, so you can not perform the task, your actions will simply not count for the owner of the channel in which you are trying to actively participate. Your onchain actions will be counted if they are read by a certain onchain algorithm that is designed specifically for counting, but you will not be visible to the real person running the project.
So there is a controversial issue about feedback between a Web3 project developing a social profile on Warpcast and the user. Your on-chain actions are visible, but the interaction between people (WEB3 Project<->USER) just can't be, because thanks to algorithms, you are a GHOST.
It's also a moot point in relation to old accounts that the Warpcast algorithm doesn't recognize. Since there are several types of users and it's easier for airdroppers to give up their account and start a new one, but for a person who cares about his identity and has a pretty good account, it's a huge problem. It's a problem for artists, it's a problem for cryptocurrency channel development, it's a problem for active and real users, whom the Warpcast algorithm recognizes only as GHOST.
Finding solutions to the problems of an algorithm that centralizes user actions (Authority point), hiding and controlling activity is a separate conversation, Here I tried to give some examples to start a rhetoric on the topic: W. Is this the best opportunity for development in crypto or other Insta-Twitter?
