A quick brainfart, but hear me out.
We've seen memecoins beginning as simple jokes to becoming a pivotal part of digital culture, redefining how we view value in crypto. First there was Doge, Shiba and in similar fashion we see Pepe and Wif. These memecoins have paved the way for a new genre of digital assets that blend humor, culture and finance in unprecedented ways.
The rebranding of 'shitcoins' to 'memecoins' in 2023 marked a shift in the community's perception (and probably to wider digital natives too). This transition emphasized the role of memecoins not just as speculative assets, but as carriers of cultural and memetic value.
Memes transcend humor; they are actually the heartbeat of digital culture, connecting individuals across the planet through shared narratives and frequencies. Memecoins crystallize these narratives into financial instruments, offering a unique blend of money and (sometimes very very niche) zeitgeist.
Sometimes it seems like memecoins are the only utility to Solana, but my take is that every blockchain eco-system will have their own leading memecoins and fertile soil for the creation of memecoins. Especially with Ethereum's #Dencun update, speed and costs are nearly eliminated to trade and accessibility to (building) memecoins has essentially been democratized.
What if we take it a step further?
What if we could Day Trade Attention? (haven't read your book @garyvee but I will).
In effect we're actually doing it already with $GROK $Boden and several other figures and entities that capture real-world attention. Imagine a world where staying informed and recognizing trends not only keeps you culturally savvy but also financially rewards you. Turning attention, engagement and cultural awareness into financial gains is what web2 platforms recognized as the single most profitable move.
I mean, there should be benefit to know what's popping, trending, to US, especially when anticipated and correct.
For this brainfart to become a reality, we need platforms like X (but better) with a crypto-powered body. A social medium that's open source, transparant and focused on the free flow of information (@farcaster_xyz this you?). Such platforms could become the bedrock of the Real World Attention (RWATT) Economy, enabling users to monetize their attention and insights.
The RWATT economy could transform how we consume and value information, turning every hashtag into a cashtag. This not only makes us more aware of global narratives but also financially incentivizes staying ahead of the curve.
Surely this brainfart doesn't deal with the superobvious ways to manipulate news and stream attention to different ways, and we must find a way there, but that kinda is how the news now rolls anyway right. I guess we'd also need an ecosystem that addresses scams with 'unruggability' standards, LP locks, verified token protocols and what have you.
But if there is this ideal ecosystem where anyone could launch a $RWATT that somehow floats above us as 'TRENDING' now does, memecoins offers a glimpse into a future where culture, attention and finance intersect.
