I’m quitting my job in the coming week.
And without another job in hand.
Here’s why I have decided to take this bet on myself.

Sounds foolish and crazy? probably.
But this desire lingered within me, for the past couple of months.
It was faint at first. Slowly it grew.
And then, it came all at once.

I struggled deeply and am still struggling.
It feels so irrational for me to do this.
I spent days thinking.
Days became weeks, weeks became months.
I contemplated the pros and cons and sometimes leaned towards pessimism.

Humans are still alive because of our nature to seek security and predictability.

The voice of logical reason reduces the amount of risk one is exposed to.
But now I’m making a conscious decision to go against it.
As I know the path that I’m comfortable with, won’t break barriers.

If I fail, I won’t die.
What I worry about most is letting others and myself down.
It is one of my biggest fears.

It is through adversity and risk, that bravery and breakthroughs are realized.
I want to take that bet on myself and see if I have what it takes.
I have climbed mountains and scuba-dived oceans.
Leaving a job with nothing “next”, is just a small part of my life.
Why wouldn’t I risk it? if it could have greater potential in the future.

What actually gives me that faith?
The crypto market is crashing; scams and hacks are everywhere, and the UI UX is atrocious.
But that is probably where the potential is.

I perform research and feasibility studies on vertical and horizontal expansions for my current company to venture in.
No matter what industry I look at, it all points me back to Web3.
Either adopting blockchain tech, NFTs, metaverse, or crypto to build their brand, engage their customers, quick cash grab, long-term integration with loyalty and rewards, or provide transparency to their supply chain, etc.

Corporations, startups, and all types of organizations are all joining the bandwagon, even in this bear market.
Money is flowing in this space and VCs are investing in almost everything Web3.
Markets have their cycles and conditions.
Understanding that provides some comfort about what will roughly happen next.

The Web3 community, in general, revolves around beliefs of decentralization, transparency, empowerment, ownership, accessibility, and inclusion.
Although people join the community for various reasons — to invest, to make new friends, to network, to find a job, to buy more assets, to learn, etc
The majority are actually friendly and helpful.

Crypto Twitter and Discord communities help educate their members on how to secure their wallets and keys, what projects are potentially rug pulls, etc.
There are grants by foundations and DAOs for education and building the community. With more people in this space, the industry will grow and hence will be worth more in the future.

The bear market is the best time to enter and build something here. People who enter and explore the industry now, believe in this industry’s potential.
Web2 social media powerhouses are adopting Web3 into their platforms too.
Just a matter of time before mass adoption will take place.

Countries and their central banks are recognizing crypto as an important asset class, some as legal tender or an alternative to traditional funding.
Regulation is also catching up.

Governments are already embracing digital products and solutions but still face the issue of poor nationwide infrastructure and resource planning, ineffective and biased policies, as well as dreadfully slow reactions to the immediate needs of the people.
Citizens generally do not trust their government as they are not aware of how the government is making decisions and based on which factors.
Web3 government apps and enterprise blockchains may be a potential solution to interoperability between departments, reduce siloed data, and link those data to form a more wholesome view of the population.

While that may sound like the world is heading to a dystopian future where Big Brother is Watching You, decentralization gives the citizens ability to trace actions, transactions, and funds that are used by the government.
How much was spent on the new highway? What happened to last year’s budget and taxpayers’ money utilization? Is there evidence of any abuse of power and cronyism? etc.
Citizens will have more control over their data and only provide necessary ones for the services they require.

Since our existence is insignificant compared to the grand scheme of the universe and at any time, we’ll just fade away, why not do something that I at least enjoy?
Sometimes you owe it to yourself to follow your heart/gut.
Even when it is risky and means sacrificing stability.
I will regret not taking a chance on myself.

I plan to give myself 1 to 2 months — to rest, upskill, network, and find a Web3 job. Probably in project management, marketing, or business development.
Let’s see what the future holds.
