In the late months of 2021, I stumbled upon a hidden gem within the crypto scene that would soon become a significant part of my life – onchain music. My passion for music and curation had always been a significant aspect of who I am. Before my involvement with the Invest in Music’s Onchain Curator Season 1, I devoted an excessive amount of time crafting playlists on platforms like Spinamp, aiming to showcase the finest tunes I came across. Some of these playlists even made it to the top of trending charts on the platform.
On conventional streaming platforms, playlists are a primary avenue for people to discover new music. However, the unique charm of onchain music lies in the fact that there is no centralized team curating such playlists; it's a collective effort of the community. The appreciation and validation of my taste and curation in the realm of onchain music have been incredibly rewarding. Yet, there's a vast universe of music beyond this niche space, and as a devoted curator, I believe it's my responsibility to bring even more exceptional music into this realm.
With that being said…
Allow me to introduce you to the talented artist Okay kayo, a name that might not be familiar yet in the onchain music world. My encounter with Okay kayo's music was serendipitous, thanks to a dear friend and onchain musician, Brìo. The first time I heard Okay kayo's music, I was left utterly astounded. There are songs that I enjoy, and then there are those that evoke vivid imagery of dance and choreography for me – music that stirs not just my soul but also my body. That, for me, is a gold standard of music. If a track can make me envision dance moves, it's a winner. Okay kayo's song "Waves" achieved just that. It resonated with me so deeply that it even earned a spot on my Spotify rewind for the year.
Ever since hearing that first track, I've eagerly awaited the opportunity to introduce this phenomenal artist to the onchain music community. Through Sound.xyz and Optimism, Okay kayo's inaugural onchain track will proudly grace the top of my curated list today, and I sincerely hope that you all will take a moment to give it a listen and support this remarkable artist on his musical journey.
As I reflected on my journey in preparation to write another post for the Invest in Music’s Onchain Curator Season 1 activation, I found myself on the brink of something special – my birthday. To celebrate this milestone, I've decided to offer a gift to the remarkable community that surrounds onchain music. While my involvement with the Invest In Music activation is primarily centered around curating Optimism-minted songs, this time, I'm going to do something a bit different.
I'm on a mission to compile an evergreen list of my top onchain songs – while this list is not complete, someday I hope to have gathered my top 100 to showcase to you all! Some of these tracks are recent discoveries from my deep dives, while others have been my trusted bops for over a year. They are not ranked in any particular order, merely an arrangement of my absolute favorites.
So, without further ado, I present to you:
