Initially intended for a legitimate recipient, the funds were mistakenly sent to the attacker, who quickly converted them into stablecoins and moved them to centralized exchanges.

The protocol has confirmed that a compromised email thread led to this error, and law enforcement has already frozen some of the stolen funds.
