The most popular podcasts are led by creators who have an unnatural ability to synthesize information from many different channels and string together the most informative, mind expanding or just plain funny dialogue.
Joe Rogan, Lex Fridman, Tim Ferris and other popular podcasters are known for their ability to hold interesting conversation in areas well outside their area of expertise due to their ability to absorb, retain and re-contextualize knowledge from different domains.
However, these podcasters are known for a specific kind of interview style podcast where personal knowledge is paramount and can be correlated to how interesting the podcast is.
If we look at the top podcasts in the US you'll see a strong trend towards another type of podcast that's more reliant on topical information about the day's news.

Medical mysteries, True Crime, and Daily News dominate the US podcasting charts. Podcast listeners aren't just looking to be entertained; they're looking to be informed about the world they live in while they go about life in that world. Podcasts are a unique medium, allowing listeners to engage with content whether they're commuting by train, tackling household chores like laundry and dishes, or relaxing in bed. Podcast listeners tend towards news and information heavy podcasts because it's an avenue for feeling productive during seemingly very unproductive or productive, but mindless activities.
So now we have a scenario. I'm on the way to work so I hop on the bus, I find a seat, I pull out my phone and I open my favorite podcast app.
Maybe I want to see what the story of the day is. So, I check out "The Daily" podcast from the NYT. However, who's to say what the story of the day is? Every community, every family and every person has a story of the day and they are probably different stories from what an editor at the NYT has decided their story of the day is.
What if every person, family and community had their own podcast specifically tailored to them?
When you look at the amazing diversity and quality of the podcasting ecosystem as a whole you might be tempted to say we're already there. It's true that there are podcasts that fit your tastes so perfectly that you feel like it's been tailor made for you personally. If that's the case then you might not care to read on because what I'd like to introduce next is a framework and tools so that every single person can have that experience.

The Autonomous Tech Podcast is a brand new podcast guided by the community and produced autonomously by configureable AI prompts and other input. This is a podcast that for the first time will be hosted by collective knowledge of the internet instead of a single host.
For now, until the community decides otherwise, this podcast will strive to be a starting point for your day as a tech enthusiast of any stripe. The amount of knowledge to gain on a daily basis is ever increasing and no single podcast can come close to distilling this knowledge down into the best parts on a daily basis, but we're going to try.
You can start listening to the latest episode today on your favorite podcast player.
The Autonomous Tech Podcast is not yet fully decentralized, but it is sufficiently decentralized for this starting use case. No sentence in the podcast has been pre-written the podcast is autonomously assembled by various agents and plugins that perform various tasks, eventually resulting in a finished podcast product that can be sent to a podcast host and downloaded by any listener. None of this code is secret, you can see it all and generate your own podcast in exactly the same way by entering your API Keys to the required services and running the simple python project locally.
Here is a breakdown of the whole process.

While the podcast generation itself is autonomous, humans are very important to the process.
Humans contribute in these important ways:
Submit a Pull Request to modify any config file that is used to generate the podcast daily.
Identifying interesting content in the form of Blogs, websites, podcasts and subreddits and adding it to the podcast config for the autonomous tech podcast is very helpful. The AI Agents that generate the daily podcast will pull stories from these data sources.
Additionally, the prompts sent to the LLM to generate each segment can have massive impacts on the quality of the podcast. Better prompts at every step of the podcast generation process would be a welcome addition. The intro music and voice used for podcast generation is also configurable.
The heart of the podcast generation process is handled by the HyperFeeder project. HyperFeeder is a collection of python plugins that contribute to the Podcast generation process in different ways. For example you could contribute a new data source plugin to enable gathering data from new sources (beyond RSS blogs, podcasts, newsletters and reddit). Open a PR to the podcast generation project here: https://github.com/normand1/HyperFeeder
Join The Autonomous Tech Podcast High Council and vote on proposed updates to the podcast.
These principles apply to the flagship "Autonomous Tech Podcast", but we plan to release additional variations for different tech podcast niches that will have slightly different guiding principles based on the context of that podcast.
If this sounds like a podcast you'd like to contribute to then please join the council or open a PR today!

Party Room for Autonomous Tech Podcast High Council

Pull Requests to update the Podcast config files will be evaluated by the Podcast High Council daily and all updates that are found to improve the quality of the Autonomous Tech Podcast will be merged into the repo and used for the next day's podcast generation ceremony.
Making updates to the podcast config files and all underlying libraries is important because it affects the experience of all listeners to the podcast. In order to ensure that updates are consistent with a general vision for the future of the podcast we've established a set of guiding principles for this podcast that all Pull Requests will be evaluated against.
Information is infinite. We strive to compile value from the limited (but constantly expanding) information set we have available.
We believe in maximizing the value presented in every podcast segment to a broad base of the tech community.
We prioritize information over news drama.
