Are you new to @OptimismGov? Have you been wondering how to vote or delegate your tokens? No worries, I will guide you through the steps in participating in @optimismFND governance as a token holder, as it is vital in making vital decisions to move the collective forward.
Let's dig in 👇🏽
Today, @OptimismGov ended the Grants Council Review Period for Season 4, Cycle #14 Experiment and Builders grant. (Image 1)
What does this mean?
Another voting period will start tomorrow (Aug 3, 2023) (Image 2)

How can you be a participant?
You can vote directly or delegate your OP tokens to an eligible trusted party.
How to become a delegate?
Being a delegate of the Optimism collective requires a genuine commitment… so make sure to read and understand the responsibilities as it is stated in the forum.
1. Commitment - Head over to the forum and commit yourself as a delegate. Read the instructions and responsibilities carefully and be sure it’s an obligation you want to be committed to.

2. Setting up your profile - You need to set up a profile on the Optimism governance portal powered by @nounsagora
Head to https://vote.optimism.io/
Connect your wallet in the top right corner of the website (Image 1)
After connecting your wallet, click on “Create delegate statement” (Image 2)

Here, you will have to fill out your profile details (image 1) following the delegate commitment form template 👉🏽 https://gov.optimism.io/t/delegate-commitments-old/235 Tip - You can use templates of other delegates there as a guide to write yours if you feel confused.
After filling out the form, click on “submit delegate profile”. (image 2)
Sign the transaction from your wallet. (Note that you will sign the approval twice)

How to delegate your OP tokens?
You might want to delegate your OP tokens to yourself or a third party you believe is dedicated to governance activities.
To delegate yourself, you can either;
- Go to 👉🏽https://vote.optimism.io/ and search for your wallet in the search bar (Image 1); In this case, I used my ENS to search for myself
- Or Click on your wallet on the top right and click on “view my profile” (Image 2)

Now you can view your profile.
Profile entails; Delegate statement, top Issues, voting power, recent voting activities, past votes, proposals created, and the number of addresses delegated to you.
On your profile homepage, click on the delegate button in the card at the top left corner. (image 1)
You will get a pop-up indicating that you are delegating your tokens to your wallet address, and the amount of tokens you currently represent (image 2)
Sign the transaction, and you’re good to go

To delegate your tokens to a third party
Go to 👉🏽 https://vote.optimism.io/
You’ll see the current delegates on the homepage and you can search for an address (if you know the delegate wallet address).
You can either delegate directly from the homepage or click on the delegate profile for more information about them.
Next, you can either delegate directly from the homepage (image 1) or click on the delegate profile for more information about them.
Click on “delegate your votes” and confirm the transaction in your wallet. (image 2)

When confirming or signing transactions, try to consider using tools like @PocketUniverseZ and @_joinfire to protect your wallet from phishing websites. (image 1)
These tools help with your wallet safety, if no warning is given, you can confirm and sign the transaction. (image 2)

How to vote on a proposal?
Head to 👉🏽https://vote.optimism.io/proposals
You’ll see ended (succeeded or defeated) and active votes (Img 1)
Click on an active proposal, and read the proposal intent, and missions from the different projects in order to decide on who to give your votes to and cast your vote. (Image 2)

FYI: image 2 is not an active proposal, that’s why it’s showing “Not open to voting”… None the less, when there’s an active proposal the vote button will be active.
